my son is going nuts , drawing a cow tag in 620-621-622,
his first big game hunt using a custom 7x57 i built him,,,

wondering where to start scouting and when, i no its hot as he.. down there

think i might take the mules down there for some exercise,,,

i drew 799-80 cow tag, never been down there, thinking about a late combo hunt down there,,,, hopefully we will get antelope tags also, not holding are breath,,,

Does your sons license include the CMR?
I hunted with the either sex rifle elk in 2011.

Most anytime is good for scouting the breaks, nice country, sure helps to get familiar with the lay of the land.
I checked things out early Sept last year, way to hot to do much.
For the rifle hunt the best time to scout is after the elk rut and the Bow hunters are out of the area.

Scout the week between seasons and be there for the opener,lots of elk get pushed around those first couple days and a good chance of finding them out of their holes.
