315/580 Elk Meat Hunt Advice

I might take advantage of leftover combo tags and plan a opening week (rifle) meat hunt. Antlers would be a great bonus, but a freezer packing trip is first priority. Hunting either out of Shields River campground, or Forest Lake campground, weather pending. With my gen tag and a 315-80, it gives me a chance for a few hundred pounds of choice meat. Question is, generally speaking about these two areas, what is the likely-hood of filling tags when one is not afraid of hoofing it off roads and up mtns? I would imagine (based on prior archery trips there) it gets CROWDED for the opener. Advice? Input?
Haven't posted here this year yet.... was almost going to give MT a year off.... Drew a Gila Wild., second archer tag!!!!! THAT is my antler hunt! Six weeks and counting!
