What are the regulations regarding carrying a firearm in a vehicle in Montana? I have combed the regs and can't seem to find it.
Can you have shells in the magazine with the chamber empty like Colorado, or do you have to have the gun empty? Cased?

Thanks,
Ed

I don't believe there are any regulations about a rifle in a vehicle. I believe you can have one in the chamber if you so desire. Pistols not in plain sight could be a different story. I sure someone will come on here and correct me if I'm wrong. Have a good time hunting.

I cant say quoting any regs but have been checked by the wardens a few times on road checks and pulled over. Never they said I was doing anything illegal. Rifles, uncased and rounds in the magazine (for obvious reasons I do not have one in the chamber) is how I transport them.

Montana Attorney Web Site states the following:
“Montana has no prohibitions against carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, although federal rules may apply in national parks.”
According to the AG you can carry a firearm inside your vehicle without a permit The Definition of concealed in Montana is "wholly or partially covered by clothing or wearing apparel".

Montana law is quiet on carrying a firearm in a vehicle. There is no mention of it being illegal to carry a loaded or unloaded firearm in a vehicle.

Thanks All,
That is just what I wanted to know.
