I am a nonresident who has never hunted in Montana. I am looking to set up a DIY hunt in Montana for deer and possibly elk this fall. I am looking at the Pryor Mtns but haven't figured out the Montana drawing process yet. Is the Indian reservation part of the regular game units? Do you special permission to hunt the reservation? How is the access into the national forest? Should I be looking somewhere else. I live 1600 miles away so preseason scouting is out of the question. I can share some Wyoming information if that helps and feel free to P.M. me. Any information good or bad is welcome. I am not looking to move in on anyone's honeyhole, just find oat starting point that I can work with. Thanks in advance.

The reservation is an entirely separate deal, the have their own tags and such. Access is somewhat limited, if you have a 4 wheeler that would help immensely. Access if muddy would be fairly difficult. I am pretty sure that tags for both deer and elk are special draw for the Pryor's. You would have to draw the tags in the general draw for nonres(easy the last few yrs) then apply for the tags. I am not certain how many tags they give for either species there. Could be pretty long odds to draw both deer and elk tags for that area though.
