Montana Spring Bear Suggestions?

I really want to do a DIY S&S bear hunt in Montana this spring. I have never been bear hunting so I could use some suggestions. I am planning on going up near Libby Montana. I am going to walk or ride a pedal bike on old closed logging roads and look for bears. Other than that I don't have a plan? Are there places to camp that time of year close to where I will be hunting? Do I stay in a hotel? What is the best time of year? Will I be dealing with snow? Where is there a good concentration of bears? I know this is a lot of questions but I really want to make this happen. I would appreciate any advice from all you bear experts out there. Thanks in advance

That's a good plan and a great area, just focus your efforts on south-facing slopes and don't bother looking on north ones...good luck.

And they only come out after dark dont bother looking on the sunny slopes...The south facing slope theory may be solid but not the rule, one of my most productive early spring bear spots here in MT is a north facing ridge and is almost always the first place I see my first spring bear.Bears coming out of hibernation are after one thing, food,if you can find the first green shoots of grass, regardless of location that is always a good spot to start. They might be higher than you expect in early spring, the big bowls at the end of snow packed drainage's are great spots to sit and glass.
