Ok guys! I got me a girlfriend that has talked me into moving up to Troy Montana so we can be together! Gzzz it would had better if she move here! So my question is since I own a house here in Utah and have a butch of points for elk and deer! Would it be worth even putting in as a res! In Montana for elk?

You have to change your residence to Montana and live here for 180 days to be able to use resident status. Once you are a Montana Resident you can buy and OTC general elk tag every year, LE units still need to be applied for but you can't do that without meeting the residency requirements.

Thanks NewMont! Yea I knew about the six month wait to be a Resident! Yes we OTC tags here in Utah also! Just trying to figure out if it would be worth keeping my residency here until I draw! Thanks again!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-12-13 AT 04:55PM (MST)[p]Once you have recieved six months worth of income in MT you really have no choice. Besides as a NR in Utah you can put in and build pts for all species. That way if you move back you have all those points. Some units will be easier to draw as a NR anyway. Most aren't tho. Put in for Utah now. Then in six months buy all your mt tags as a resident right before the hunts start.

I don't know the details, but I am pretty sure you cannot hunt as a resident in two different states in the same calender year, even if your 6 month mark ends in the middle of the season. I would talk to a F&G person from both states for clarification. I am guessing they will tell you to buy resident tags in Utah this year, and MT the following. You may have a choice this year. I know they check the computers to make sure that the same person is only "residing" in one state per year for hunting purposes.

Yea I think I will try to burn my points here first! And have my girlfriend apply for a LE Elk tag there in Montana and then buy a OTC tag if she dont draw! That way I could still just take her hunting! Plus I should draw Wyoming Elk this year in unit 118! This could turn out to be a very busy year! Thanks guy for all the info!
