Montana Bear Experts Needed

I am interested in a DIY spring bear hunt in Montana. I have narrowed my hunting location to either 105 or 106. What do you think abou the Tally Lake area in the Salish Mountains? Are there good number of bears there? Will I be dealing with crowds of people in this area? If this is not a good area does anyone have and suggestions for other areas. I would really appreciate any info. I will be traveling from Kansas so I will not be able to scout before hand. I thank you in advance.

There are lots of bears out there. That area used to close May 15, up until last year, I believe. Now it's open until May 31. I would wait until after May 10 to come. You can get away from people easily. Park at any lock FS gate and start walking, checking clearcuts. Get on google earth and find which roads lead to newer clearcuts. Find the grass, find the bears. Piles of bears throughout all this country. Salish, clear to Trego. Across the hwy north of whitefish, clear to Eureka is also good for bears.

Lots of good areas as stated above. Anywhere in the NW corner of the state. Gated logging roads are your best bet and there is no shortage of bears. Be sure to thoroughly check clear cuts as well. If you don't see any bear sign on the roads, find a different one. I would personally wait until the second week of May before I got serious about anything. Snow should be gone by then and clover will be growing good on the roads. I primarily hunt the evenings as that is when I find most bear movement. I generally walk my bike in ( I've jumped them off the road riding in) and ride out in the dark. Makes getting back to the truck much quicker. Can also walk a dead bear out by putting the bear on the bike.
