Saw an article that a bunch of elite billionaires are trying to buy up a bunch of property in MT to create a private national park for buffalo. Basically run out the "evil" ranchers, take thier land, and turn it into a freaking mess...

God I hope we can prevent this... Maybe get several ranches to the RMEF, preferably right in the middle so that we can hunt the animals!

The American Prairie Reserve is a fact. Been so for some time.
Lots of $$$$$$$$$$ to spend.
Land owners in the area hate it but, ARE SELLING!
APR buys the deeded land, with the deeded comes the Federal and State lands grazing rights. APR has total about 150,000 acres and growing fast. NOT a National Park and mostly open to the public.
They are taking out the cross fences. Restoring any crop land and streams to as native as possible.
The perimeter of the deeded and grazing allotments is fenced and being fenced with Bison proof fencing.
Lots of Buffalo are there already, cattle are gone.

All Bad? Decide for yourself.

Are you against all wealthy people buying MT lands or just these guys. You may want to compare.

Prevent willing seller/buyer? What do you suggest?

The really interesting part would be to understand why? I'm betting its a huge tax shelter scheme, dump millions into prestine land that will only appreciate over time, call it a refuge and pay $0 in taxes. Its the Ted Turner plan....

LAST EDITED ON May-31-13 AT 03:19AM (MST)[p]Are you using that land now? Would it look better as an oil field?

Ted has created an elk haven for the areas surrounding his property in every direction. Similar to hunting Yellowstone Park boundaries. Major improvement.

What's the problem?

American Prairie Reserve pays taxes on the deeded land. APR has also raised the value of the land by paying more per acre then any rancher would pay in that area. So, Real Estate is taxed at the value of the purchase price. Considerably more then the previous owners paid. APR has also got to pay the lease to the BLM and State lands. Bison in MT are considered livestock so the same rules as cattle apply.

American Prairie Reserve is a private Corporation.

No I'm not using and probably have/had a zero chance of ever using it, and its private so they can do what they want, oil or otherwise. Simply a posing a question.

Turner's not similar to hunting park boundaries...the Park doesn't have 5-6 wire fences surrounding it, the Park Rangers don't chase the elk back on the property like Turner's hands, the Park doesn't sell bulls elk +$7500 a pop and they don't block access to state land sections.

You're not from around here are you?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-04-13 AT 07:16AM (MST)[p]Hes right, wtf are you from?Created an elk haven? They patrol the borders of his place to make sure no elk leave his boundary's,Zigga you may live in MT but its obvious you know nothing about it you havnt read in an issue of some publication funded by RMEF.Turners place is the closest thing you can have without actually having a high fence operation,if you consider that an elk haven you have no idea what a haven is.They do every thing they can to keep the elk on his place,do their best to make sure no lowly public land hunting local gets a shot at an elk and charge high dollar prices to shoot bulls on his place, sounds like a haven to me!

If Turner's crew is paid to keep keep elk on the ranch then they should be fired for doing a pizz poor job. A lot of successful hunters taking huge bulls on his fence line every year. He has so many acres the National Guard couldn't manage the fence lines.

Nice try though.
