Hey guys, anybody find out how many Non Res big game combo apps Montana received overall for this years draw??- Hatrick

According to the website none of the Combos sold out.
Also no need for an alternates list, so there must be a LOT of surplus. Licenses will be available over the counter starting the fifth of May.

Not sure how many are left. Getting emails from MT outfitters talking about a bunch of leftover tags.

There will likely be a lot if the past couple years are any indication. Lower deer numbers aren't helping matters.

I really hope the reduction in doe tags helps get the deer moving in the right direction.

I do find it interesting, funny actually.

How FWP is trying hard to promote NR license sales.

They say 85% of MT elk areas are at or above management quotas.
OK, so those 15% were the best general hunt areas in the state. Now managed for the Canadian Wolves.
The rest of the above management quotas areas are special permit only or very hard to access, especially for a NR.
Such as the Custer NF and The CMR and surrounding BLM.
Plenty of elk there but how does a NR or anybody have much of a chance.
Can't blame FWP for trying to sell licenses, but heck! they put up no fight what so ever to stop USFWS from bringing in the Canadian Wolves.

If guys would quit bitching about the wolves and actually hunt, they might be pleasantly surprised. There's plenty of elk here in Montana, big ones too. The wolf blame game is pathetic. mtmuley

The hardest work this mtmuley does is drag the deer off the road to get a pic.

It's true, if you have closed private property to hunt where wolves have concentrated elk and deer you can do real well, why not praise the Canadian wolves. They can be a asset.

Don't paint a picture of Montana hunting that isn't the truth. I'm not defending wolves, I've made that clear before. But, you obviously have no idea of the current quality of elk hunting here in Montana. Stop your uneducated blather about it. Dragging deer off the road huh? mtmuley

mntmuley I wonder how many of your 3,600 something posts have been for defending, promoting, the Canadian Wolf transplants.
Anybody with a working brain does understand what all this means for the future of hunting, big game hunting that is. MT WY ID.
You spend all this energy defending the Canadian Wolves.

Show me where I defend wolves. Never been on a canned hunt, but it seems you might as well book one to kill an elk. I do just fine here in Montana. mtmuley

It isnt true that Montana has the absolute best general elk season potential on public land of any state..Nor do they have the best public whitetail hunts..all on more/less OTC tags..

nope, Montana sucks, the woofs et them all.

We just struck out in New Mexico despite applying for a hunt that went undersubscribed last year!

So we may be in the market for one of the MT combo leftovers. Looks like it's that or OTC Colorado.

Unless I hit on a longshot somewhere else, which is possible as I have a lot of points.
