Little Belts

I recently drew the General Deer Combo tag, and my father and I are looking at hunting out near the little belts near Neihart, MT to hunt Mulies. Does anyone here have any recent experiences or advice they could give me? We typically hunt near the Lolo & Superior, MT area; however we just don't have the time available to travel that far to scout & hunt. Any help is appreciated.Thank you

I forgot to mention; we would be hunting state, federal or BLM land. Is there much for public hunting out in this area? We like to walk & get off the beaten path. Thanks

The Lewis and Clark National Forest covers a big area in the Little Belts. Deer numbers aren't great but Mulies are throughout.
Ready to back out meat? get back in a ways, some good bucks here and there.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes we plan on packing out meat should we get one. I am the only one with a tag, so we are going to head out this summer for 5 days and scout, and then will be out the first or second week of November to hunt. What type of terrain is the Lewis & Clark mainly? Should i plan on hiking in & setting up camp for the week, or should i hike in & out of different areas each day? Last question, is there much for bears in this area? Thanks

Excellent plan to do 5 days Summer scouting. Will save tons of down time later. The Little Belts are a little more gentle then most MT mountains farther West and South. Still there is plenty of rough, steep, timber choked stuff. Most of the peaks are around 7-8 thousand feet. High country usually gets snowed in early by the end of Oct. There is plenty of Black Bear in the Little Belts. Probably not any Grizz. These are not "Park" bear don't worry about them.
I have done both the hiking in each day and remote solo camps for overnights to be where I want to be at first light. The remote way is the best for adventure.
I have the Big Game Combo again, I'll be hunting Elk and Deer.
Send me a pm.
