Elk unit 270

Hey guys. I've been looking at unit 270 for an elk hunt in 2015. Looking over the maps and studying the statistics.
Anyone hunt this unit or offer any advice greatly appreciated.

I have friends that have hunted 270 for 30 plus years. They've always done fairly well. Things were tough for a few years recently but seem to be on the rebound. Snow really helps as some of the elk that use the area migrate in from the Big Hole. mtmuley

Hunted in that unit back in 1981 but only found and see Cows then. Not many deer either then during the NOV hunt....but LOT'S OF SNOW AND COLD.

We were out pass Shalkaho Falls about 3 miles or so, then back south a few miles BUT thick timber then.

I applied for a 270 unlimited permit this fall. Looking at the maps there seems to be a lot of roads; are there travel restrictions in place? Did a lot of this unit burn? Thanks for the help.

Some roads will be gated after October 15th. No ATV/UTVs off established roads. Some of the unit has burned, but I wouldn't be concerned. mtmuley

Stickhunter3006 - I've hunted across the divide in 319 and this year I put in for 270 in case I don't connect earlier in the rifle season. I'm looking at hunting the French Basin area or higher up along the wilderness area if it's dry. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I have limited experience in 319 and have good areas for whitetail in region 1 if that interest you. Thanks for the help. Preston 406-210-1697
