LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-16 AT 02:34PM (MST)[p]I am planning a mule deer hunt in montana instead of idaho for this fall and was thinking about region 7. I've never been down in that area but i hear it has good deer numbers. good or bad choice??

I hunted Montana for the first time last year and I hunted unit 7. I hunted up north by Ft. Peck and killed a 22" 4x4. I went south to the Custer National Forest looking for turkeys and could have shot several small to medium mule deer and a pretty nice 5x5 whitetail if I'd had another tag. Don't know if you will find a monster but there seemed to be plenty of deer.

The critters have to win every time. I only have to win once.

perfect I'm glad to hear that thanks for the info! I'm not looking for monsters more or less just more time out in the field. what time of year were you there?

I was there in early November so I wouldn't miss out on rifle season back home in Missouri. Everybody says that the second half of November is much better for seeing rut action and larger bucks.
