Non resident application cost increase AGAIN, Mountain Goat

Was just reading another forum and saw someone posted that the total cost for a NR applying for Mt goat (and I assume moose and sheep too) has increased AGAIN. Last year it was $83 total, this year its up to $100. I'm thinking of bailing out of the state with this news, its just getting too expensive for the very small chance of drawing a tag. What does everyone else think about this?

Awhile back I bailed on the app for Goat & Moose due to costs out (both refunded & not refunded). This am I submitted my Sheep app to accompany my bonus points (accumulated from the beginning) and about fell out of my chair at the $ 98.70 non-refundable fee. And they raised the price of the tag from $ 750 to $ 1,200 recently. We all have a bunch invested in our chances (bonus point build up), but at some point, when do we pull the plug and bail using the funds to hunt elsewhere.

Something hurts besides my C/C.

I just completed my application for moose, sheep and goat here in Montana as a resident. All told, I paid about 40 bucks. Before you NRs jump on me, this 10 dollar app fee is fairly new. You can bet every hunter, and their kids and uncles and step sisters and, well.. People that wouldn't pony up the money before, are now. My odds are down and suck real bad too. Welcome to reality. mtmuley

It's only going to get worse , the more of us who drop out the more they're going to charge those of us who stay in to make up the difference. it's a hose job for sure but nobody is putting a gun to our had to make us do it.

I'm staying in for sheep and goat. I'm done with T moose the cost isn't justified with the awful odds and poor quality of the animals.

This isn't exactly the same as when WY raised their prices on points because there are 100 times more applicants with points in MT and MT doesn't guarantee the NR anything. but lots of guys bailed on WY when they upped the price and I stayed in. as a result I've drawn my WY moose and sheep tags which I very well may still be waiting for otherwise.

Maybe if enough guys bail MT will set the NR a quota so we know we're getting something for out money.

Im not sure how you guys only paid 98 bucks or whatever but mine was 235 applied for sheep, goat and moose and a extra point for each and mine was still 235. I need to figure out what you guys are doing to apply so that I can cut my cost.

I just applied the entire fam, (4) for bison, moose, sheep, and goat for around $150. Terrible odds when you can do this. Togwotee, thanks for leaving the crappy quality moose permits to me and the fam.. :D

Sure MT has a few decent moose, but when you consider the .0004 % chance of draw and the so so quality moose you can expect to get it's not worth it for a NR. if I was a resident sure.

he .0003 % chance of drawing a sheep tag is dismal too but the quality is top notch. the goat quality is so so but the odds of drawing a tag are decent. it's all about what you get for your money. or might get I should say.
Deer and elk hunting in MT is fun I've done it quite a bit and I will again. but you're right the quality isn't anything to get excited about.

Too expensive for me, and too little of a chance of drawing since i am a NR. But there are quality Moose, Goat and Sheep in MT. It only takes 5 or 6 days to run into 3 or 4 bulls like the one below, while i'm looking for an elk. $hit, one even came to me and tried to stomp me into the dirt.. This one just happened to be in a place where i didn't have anything better to do since he wouldn't get out of the road, so i snapped a couple shots through the window. If a guy had a tag, i am sure he can do better than this bull if they put some time in. Maybe ill put in for the Supertag...

Neat to see, I love moose. but that bull scores nothing. yes there are better ones but not very many even if you beat the insane draw odds that's why I don't consider the cost worth it.

It's been a few years since I haven't seen giant high scoring booner moose while hunting other animals in MT. 2 years ago I'm fairly sure I saw a world record caliber shiras along with another in the solid 170s. No doubt- odds of drawing are low.
Here's the one I got, when I was lucky in the draw..
