sad situation

I was checking the Montana stat's, elk unit 316 had 94 hunters and they harvested 3 bulls in the latest posted season 2015. Back when I was hunting that area consistently there would be a hundred or more stock trailers at the Boulder trail head alone. I would see groups of hunters coming out with three bulls. I was mostly hunting sheep but would see elk every year including some good ones. Quit the area because the wolves moved in. So sad it has come to this.

I hope to go back some day but obviously it will be more of a site seeing tour rather than a hunt.

Haven't been in 316, but there has been a lot of chatter on another forum for how far the wildlife have taken a nose dive in MT. The state has so much potential for great hunting, but lots of reasons why it isn't fairing as well as before. Lots of political reasons. Still some good hunting, but not what it was a short 10 years ago.

Moved to MT from WY couple years ago. Not impressed with the hunting quality, especially mule deer....

When you do the math. As in when you factor in the human population, available suitable habitat, winter range, etc, there should be way more deer, elk, and moose in Montana.
