CWD tag

I have the CWD buck tag, units 575, 502, 510 and 520. To bad this happened to the deer in the area. I have been to Billings before and only driven through the country. Anyone willing to discuss winter patterns of these deer?

Did you get the muley or white tag. I got the whitetail doe tag. Never hunted the unit before but spent opening day driving all over the hunt area. Couldn't find any huntable witetails but did see a handful of muley meat bucks on blm.

Spent almost a week with the Muley buck tag searching high and low for a big one. I drove roads glassing trying to find tracks in the fresh snow. I hiked like crazy to get to good glassing points also. I was excited about this tag because of the surrounding mountains and possibility of snow pushing deer down to the winter range. I took a gamble and got the tag. I did not care to hunt farm country down low at all and would focus on the Pryor Mountains. A little research told me that it was really low densities of deer. I had also heard that genetics were descent here too. What I didn't realize was how few bucks there would be to doe.

After about 2 days I found a pocket of about 100 doe and 7 bucks that was almost toward the top of the mountain on the sun facing slopes. The bucks were 1.5 - 2.5 year old looking deer. I did search surrounding hills and farmland and found about 50 more deer with 2 more small bucks. How nice would it be to be a buck on this range?

This unit is supposedly LE to Montana standards. Although not being from Montana, I realize I do not have a say in Montana?s management of wildlife but feel they should limit hunting on the Pryor?s even more than they already do. By my observations with detailed glass on every animal I saw, they have a post season buck to doe ratios of about 5-7 bucks to 100 doe. I realize that others might disagree with me and that someone will shoot a monster somewhere. These are just the observations of one solo man. Good luck to y?all if anyone needs any pointers on where to go, I will be glad to help.

It's mid to late December, the mature bucks are not hanging with the does, they are hiding out as far from humans as they can possibly be. The whitetail bucks on the other hand seemed to still be chasing does
