Unit 70 mule deer

Go ahead and put in for it. I know the unit probably better than anyone still alive.
P.M. me if you want details.

If you a non resident it's about impossible to draw! I have spent years putting in for it with no luck!

I applied and actually drew a tag as a NR the first year it became a draw unit, 2008. Odds that year were about 50%. Since then, yep the odds totally suck! Odds for moose tags in that unit are the same way now too and I gave up trying.

Doubt that.. i know some locals that poach that and i contend they know it better than you do.. or maybe you are one of those guys eh..

I had the tag 2 years ago and it is a tough tag to turn up big bucks in. Maybe it was just bad timing/luck but we didn't see anything I was overly impressed with and I ended up taking a 150" buck. It might get better now that they are not allowing the guys with a general deer tag to archery hunt it (they turned it into an unlimited archery draw tag this year). My buddy that also drew with me was finally able to get access to some private land the last couple days of the hunt and was able to take a 170" buck.

As was mentioned above I also believe that there is a poaching problem in that unit.

You talking 2014, or what year? I ask because no non residents put in for 70 last year according to the draw odds from 2014, it had listed that 0 non residents drew and 0 applied. Also, the only tags that were issued were archery.

When I look it shows that 76 nonresidents put in for unit 70 last year and 4 drew. I'm not sure why all tags issued in unit 70 last year show they were archery tags.

"Go hunt for meat at Walmart."

The odds for a non res are about 1-20. If you know about the local tribal hunting privileges you will know they are the ones poaching the cream of the crop.

The poachers that I heard about got caught. A couple years a go a couple guys shot a buck that was suposedly pushing 40" wide, They shot it with a rifle during the archery season and tagged it with the general tag trying to pass it off as an archery kill.

Hi there. My dad, brother and I drew Unit 70 deer tags and have never hunted there before. Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you.
