My wife drew a Unit 78 Bull Moose tag. She is pretty picky and wants a big one, so I thought I'd throw a line out there that if anybody comes across a decent bull in that unit I would love a PM with any info you're willing to provide.

Thanks for the help and I'll post pics as we start finding some moose.

My parents have a vacation home in Paris. Growing up we used to see tons of moose up Paris, Bloomington, and St charles canyons. I haven't been there with binos in years. Every time I go down its off to North Beach with the kidos. Good luck. Post some pics of the hunt. Wouldn't hurt to ask the scout camp leaders at aspen ridge on the other side of the hill what they have seen.

I'd love to poke around down there for you if I didn't live in Billings, MT.

Thanks for the advice. I've put in 5 days scouting so far, mostly getting cameras set up.

Now that I've got them up and running, I'll let them do their thing and try to put some actual eyes on a bull or two.

Once I get pics worth posting, I'll be sure to get them up.

Thanks again.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-15 AT 05:34PM (MST)[p]I had a unit 75 tag. Since I live in Ok. scouting wasn't a option but I still wanted to go DIY. My 2 friends and I planned our hunt while the OTC elk and deer season were open. Everyone road hunts so it didn't bother us much since we were not.

We would ask everyone we saw who was wearing orange or camo if they had seen any big moose. One couple drew a X on the map at the end of a trail where they saw a "really big one". We hiked in and sure enough we walked right in on him and shot him under 40 yards. After drying he ended up being 48" wide and scoring 146 and making b&c

I could have never done it without my 2 hunting buddies. It was massive amounts of work but VERY memorable.

Wow. Congrats on the great bull.

I just got back from scouting tonight. We didn't find any moose but did run into a nice guy out looking for deer. I gave him my number and he said he'd let me know if he found a bull this year. We're gonna keep hitting it hard, I'm just thankful the season is long. I think we may need it.

Congratulations gknutson! That is a great shiras moose! You did very well for no scouting and coming from out of state. Moose are huge animals. You know they are big, but you don't fully appreciate how big they are until you have one on the ground to take care of. You made some lifelong memories.

The long season is nice. Especially if you live close. It seemed like on our hunt there were tons of people looking for deer and elk but all of them were roadhunting. If you hiked 1/4 of a mile you were totally alone.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-16-15 AT 11:47AM (MST)[p]Here are some bull pics I pulled off the camera yesterday. No shooters, but with these smaller bulls and a bunch of cows around, maybe a big bull will show up once the rut starts.

I'll post more pics as I get them. Thanks for all the help and advice guys.

I realized I forgot to update this thread. My wife ended up getting a really nice bull in September. It will be in Eastman's in August or September so I can't post pictures, but its a beautiful bull and made B&C.

If anybody ever gets a 78 Moose tag, let me know and I'll share what info I have.

Kickin' your MM buds to the curb huh? JK

I'll watch for the issue and wait to see her trophy bull. It must be a good one to make B&C.

Well done!
Zeke

Thanks Zeke. I can't remember what its final gross was (I think 159 7/8), but its official net is 149 0/8. So it ended up well above the minimum B&C of 140. It took somewhere around 40 days of hunting and scouting, so she definitely earned it.

PS. She shot it at about 5 yards... it was awesome.

It should be in the DIY issue of Eastman's, so watch for that one.

No worries. I'll post pics once it runs but I made a commitment to not post online before then.

Sounds like an awesome hunt and bull. Can't wait to see the photos. You and your wife sure do pull some great tags.

That's awesome! She/you really put the time in for that hunt. It paid big dividends!
I shot my B&C bull at 13 yards with my bow. They are big anyway but they look even bigger when they're right in your lips!
Zeke

Congrats to you and your wife. That is one of the units my wife has been considering applying for and I would much appreciate discussing the hunt with you. I you would be willing to discuss, let me know the best way to get in contact with you. Thanks, Todd.

Thanks to Eastman's for running her moose story in the DIY issue. You can see the full story and more pics there if you get the magazine.

Here are some pics of her moose as promised and, like I mentioned above, if anybody draws the tag and needs help just let me know. She'll be hunting OTC Archery elk there this year so I'm happy to share any info about moose I see. PS. I would love elk info if anybody comes across a bull.

Amazing moose, congratulations!!
I hope to find one like that for my Daughter, she drew unit 70.
Going to cut our Wyoming archery antelope hunt short and spend a few days scouting the end of next week.

Grizzly,

Thats a stud bull congrats. Couldn't pass him up for sure. I love big moose. He looks a bit bigger than 149, did you have him officially scored? He looks bigger than mine Idaho bull, and mine scored 157.

Awesome bull!!! That is a great shiras bull!!

Pooner 149" was the net score he said it grossed 159 and change.
