With animals starting to hit the ground around here. I'd like to mention that I have some early season space to process heads for some of you folks that arn't interested in a traditional shoulder mount. Here's buck from last year. Thanks.

Thanks for the comments.

Bigcreek, to process a bull elk is $175 (clean, degrease, whiten)

I have a full price list and a bunch of photos on my website www.purebonestaxidermy.com

Also, my Instagram page is @purebones and I have a bunch of good photos there, too. Here' an archery bull I did last year. Thanks and good luck!

Cool thanks for the info. Can you still make it look good like in your picture if the skull is a year old or even several years old and was stripped then maggots ate out the rest so you know how that looks.

Sorry but the short answer is no. I can't get bones to finish out like new when they have exposed to weather, insects, or soil. However that being said, I do get neglected trophies sometimes and I can make them look really great when you compare them to how they looked on arrival.
Here is a Aoudad I did last year. It was completely mummified so badly it took 10 months of processing to get it looking like it is here. Luckily, it had no rodent and very little insect damage.

Well it sounds like I better get you a fresh one then. Ive got some sitting in a bone pile in a corner of the shop out of the sun but tractors park in there etc so lots of dust and what not. Ok gives me something to think about, thank you.

I have a frozen head I wanna euro from my deer last year we need to talk no time with work.

RE: Euro Skull Work / For Best Results

Just a quick reminder, the better a trophy skull is kept prior to starting a European mount the better the final trophy will look. Some of the mistakes I see when skulls arrive are the following;
1) Previously boiled or simmered skulls.
?Bad idea, heating the bone sets the grease deeper into the bone and separates the seams of the skull. Boiling also cooks the meat and slows my entire process.
2) Letting your skull sit out and where flies can get at it.
I see this a lot especially with larger hard to freeze skulls. Letting flies attack your skull may be natural but if you want any of the internal bones to be in place when it's finished, don't let the flies lay eggs on it. The maggots will destroy the more delicate bones, especially in the nasal passages. Also, most skull guys also charge more for neglected skulls arriving in a putrid state.

Your trophy skull deserves the very best processing but I can only do so much once the damage is done. To get a beautifully finished European or skull mount that is completely intact, grease free, white and museum quality it's best to remove the brain and freeze ASAP. At least submerge your skull in cold water, until you can get it to your European taxidermist...with in a couple of days is best, not weeks. Personally, if you want to skin and flesh the skull you can, that is up to you. I prefer doing that myself, that way I know there will be no knife marks in the bones.
Thanks, Greg

RE: Euro Skull Work / For Best Results

With a variety of seasons underway I just want to let the predator callers and houndsmen know that I not only process predator skulls for hunters. I also buy raw lion, wolf, bear and bobcat skulls that are intact and undamaged.Thanks.
Here's a big wolf I sent out last week.

RE: Euro Skull Work / For Best Results

I used to have a beetle cleaning Euro business. I sold it when I moved. I just wanted to chime in here and say the work Greatbasin has shown here is top-notch work. It is really tough to get the grease out of the bones and make them that white. This is very professional work.

RE: Euro Skull Work / For Best Results

Do your prices assume starting with mostly bone, or is hide on okay?

I have a whitetail that is in the freezer with hide on the head.

Basic turn around time for this type of situation?

Lastly, is there a ready way to hang without adding a plaque? Will a wire hook or something similar be attached?

I dont do plaques and most of my clients use a commercial hanger like the Skull Hooker but really a robe hook from Home Depot works for most deer.

Just a quick note with photos, to remind you all how nice bears and other predators can look when processed as Europeans.
