Antelope 44-1

I appreciate the help I have received on these forums over the years. My son drew his first antelope tag in unit 44-1. Can anyone provide any input you have had with this hunt? Focusing on the southern and southwestern portions of the unit seem like the place to start.

I've been in the area many times but never hunting antelope. It seems the majority of antelope I have seen is on private land. Anyone have experience with the landowners in the Camas prairie and their willingness to allow hunting?

Thanks and good luck this fall!

My brother drew the doe tag in 44. I scouted it 3 weeks ago, didn't see any antelope on public, but lots on private. I thought it was weird that I didn't see one posted property. Compared to some parts of the state where they will put up the old "don't even ask to hunt" and "no trespassing" every 10 feet.

I was around Hill City, Fairfield and Mormon Reservoir. Let me know if you find any on public.

Getting permission to hunt antelope on the camas prairie should be pretty easy, I was up there bow hunting for antelope a couple weeks back and gained access to 1000's of acres by knocking on a couple of doors. Never heard a single no. Rifle access may be a little more difficult, but in all actuality it seems those landowners have a love/hate relationship with the antelope. On one farm when I talked to the landowner, she had her top hired guy take me for a ride and show me all of their property. PM me and I can share some contacts with you. Just please respect those landowners properties up there as I heard some horror stories about guys with a bad taste left by lazy/slob hunters and I would like continued access in the future.

Thanks for the input everyone. PM sent.

I have looked at the access yes properties on paper and will definitely check those areas out. I'm hoping to knock some doors ahead of the hunt and see what we can do.

We found 2 nice herds up high above the private. Couple decent bucks. Its a small unit, drive till you find them.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-15 AT 01:25PM (MST)[p]We filled my brother's antelope doe tag yesterday, I saw 2 nice bucks (nice for Idaho) while out and about. If any kids with the 44 buck tag need some help shoot me a PM.

Also, the onX hunt gps app was a huge help in this unit.
