Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum but I was wondering if you guys could give me some help. I am thinking of moving to idaho after my wedding. I come from California. Me and my girl have looked around boise, kuna, Weiser, meridian and caldwell. Is there good public hunting and fishing areas around?. I'm not asking for your hot spot, just looking for some facts before I choose to move. I am looking to hunt deer and fish for bass, as I do in cali. Anything would help. Thanks

There is plenty of public land for big game hunting anywhere around the areas you are thinking about moving to, and there is great bass fishing to be had up and down the snake river and its impoundments, and in lake Lowell, and various other lakes, reservoirs and rivers here in SW Idaho. Congrats on the upcoming nuptials. How soon are you looking to take the plunge?

Thanks for the information. That helps a lot. Planning on taking plunge late next year.

I live out in Kuna. Plenty of good fishing around here. Sturgeon, trout, bass, catfish. You name it. I end up driving a couple hours to hunt. The closer you are to boise the more hunting pressure it seems to have. Idaho is a great state with plenty of opportunity.

How do you like living in kuna? How far do you drive normally for hunting? I know Idaho has wolfs, ever have an encouter? Thanks everyone for the replys, me and my fiance are torn between Idaho and texas. Texas seems to be all private hunting land so Idaho is looking better.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-29-15 AT 07:45PM (MST)[p]I lived in Idaho for four years back in my college days in the late 1990s.

If whitetails are your thing then it is hard to beat the Northern area around Moscow and hunting the St. Joe or the Clearwater. Good elk hunting too. 8A is always near the top in elk take. And lots of water in Idaho and the Washington border on the dams of the Snake or the Snake itself.

It sounds like you want to stay more towards Boise but I thought i would throw it out there. I lived in McCall when I was out there as well. That is a good area for muleys and elk (if the wolves have not demolished them). Cascade Resevoir is good fishing.

I love Kuna. I drive 2-2.5 hours for a lot of my hunting. However, I have shot elk and deer within an hour drive. I have seen wolves on one occurance and there were three of them. It was within a 45 minute drive.

We looked a lot into texas, but ended up not being what I want. I know they have amazing hunting but most land is private by what I have read. Again thank you guys for all the replies and info, you wouldn't believe what kind of things people say to you out here when asking a couple questions haha. Me and my fiance have fallen in love with Idaho, so now we are just looking into where in Idaho we should go.

Ca mule deer season opened today and so I will be out there all this month hoping to bag my first buck.
