Anyone have any advice on this hunt? I will be going over during the last couple weekends of the hunt to try to find me a rutting muley. Probably going to hit the SE corner of the unit first out in the sage. I will be going alone to try to fill my general Idaho tag. Is there a map somewhere of the sections that are close? I have a pretty good idea based off of the description but a map would be much better?

Thanks for any advice in advance. Feel free to PM me.

the closed area is essentially the foothills directly outside of boise and the triangle formed between the cottonwood road, arrowrock res and highway 21, if you want to hunt in the sage it will be around mountain home as that is most of the sage/winter range close to boise. hope for some snow we saw 300+ deer in 2 days of hunting last november right after the snow flew, 1 beautiful 170 class buck right on the road on the way out after tagging out, buddies didnt want to even try and go after him anymore(2 of them still had tags). I missed a 28" 3 point and ended up killing about a 20" forky to fill my freezer

Thanks, for the info. Not to set on sage, just want to hunt where there are deer. 300 deer in two days sounds pretty good to me. I have my fingers crossed for snow. We have already gotten some this Sept which hopefully is a sign of good things to come. Don't need a 170" deer but would like to kill a mature buck with my bow.

Last year there were a ton of hunters, all near arrowrock. I drove 15-20 miles on that nasty dirt road and all I saw were guys chasing does. If you somehow manage to get back by atlanta, it was not bad there. I drew the triangle hunt this yr thank goodness.

It can be a great hunt, but it's more of a get lucky hunt in my opinion. You can see some amazing deer and even get in some good stalks, but I have had more stalks blown by other hunters being stupid and not getting the wind right or walking right at the deer or just not being hunters at all really. It's frustrating but if you have time and can avoid the weekends your chances go up, if the snow flies and you can avoid the weekends you can see and work a lot of deer.

What nobody is going to tell him about Mayfield rd from all the people I see on it you must be able to drive up and down the road all day and arrow deer and elk right from your truck. lol

Sorry just a sore point with me. Every year somebody shoots a deer or elk on private property and then comes and asks if they can retrieve their animal. It really doesn't help to get landowners to allow people on their property with this kind of mentality.

As for deer it's pretty hard not to see deer in 39 as long as your eyes are open Have fun out there NPHunter
