Looking for any advice for a youth elk hunt. My son is 13 and has harvested 2 deer but never any elk. He would love the opportunity for a bull but a cow would be just as well to fill the freezer. Any input on units or general areas, obviously not after any secret information. I have been studying all of the draw odds, success rates, etc. but those charts leave out key info such as public access and terrain. We usually tent camp during hunts depending on weather and hunting area.
We live out of state and plan to put in for the draw but will also go OTC if needed. He is entering NM youth elk draw as well but odds are very low. Elk tags in our state are nearly impossible, even for youth. Thanks in advance for any help!
