I drew 27-1 Sheep! Is there anybody that has hunted this unit that is willing to give me some advice? I have never been in this area at all, so ANY help would be greatly appreciated. PM me.

I know that this is considered one of the hardest sheep units anywhere, but I'm a mountain goat and I'm already in the best shape of my life. I will be ready to cover some serious ground by Aug 30.

Please help!

Congrats! Fun but very tough hunt. You will definitely need to be in shape. Lots of neat country with very few sheep but keep after it and you might stubble into them. Plan on putting in the time and miles! Good luck!!

Hello happyhorn, I shot my ram in 27-1 in 2004, and since than have helped 3 friends get rams. I can point you the right direction and how to effectively hunt it . PM if you want..

Hey guys, since you have been in the unit hunting sheep I wondered if you could help me with elk. I've been hunting elk in unit 27 but I wanted to try in the 27-1 area near Pistol/Indian/Little Pistol Creek. I'm mostly just wanting to know two things: where you saw elk or elk sign in terms of elevation and geography? High-elevation basins? Burned areas? Mid-elevation along the creeks near meadows? I have seen them most often in the higher basins, often one or two herds in each basin (often with high-mountain lakes). And, where did you see a lot of pressure from hunters and outfitters? I'm banking on the first few miles from the trailheads, then scattered pressure from horse packing hunters along trails farther in. I'm guessing the pressure is less than unit 27 closer to Stanley or the Sawtooth or McCall zones. Any help would be much appreciated.
