Hello everyone, I also posted in the general hunting forum to introduce myself. My name is Ethan. I am from Utah(born and raised). I absolutely love hunting. It is one of my greatest passions. I have been cruising along on this website for a couple years now and finally thought I would post and introduce myself. This seems like a great group of people. I am finally trying to expand on my hunting areas to other states and wanted to give Idaho a try. I was wondering what people's thoughts were on an OTC mule deer tag for unit 74 or 76. I have heard good and bad things so far about these units and wanted to know what some local people thought. As well as any beginning places to at least drive to so I can start hiking and find places myself. I know 74 has a lot of private so that's also hard. Any help or just in general thoughts on either unit would be much appreciated. Thanks.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-06-16 AT 10:21PM (MST)[p]Welcome. I don't have any experience in those units but I did some shed hunting in unit 74 this year and found some nice deer sheds so even though there is a lot of pressure and private land I was thinking of giving it a try if I don't connect during the general archery season. If you get a chance to scout and learn where the private land is you'll be alright. You can do that on the Idaho Fish and Game site and Google Earth.

I have been in 76 the past two archery elk seasons on the East side bordering Wyoming. I saw a lot of mule deer but there was just one problem - most of them were on private land in the bottoms near the Salt river and some of that was on the Wyoming side. There was deer sign in the forest but I do not think I ever saw a mulie while hunting.

Prolly not much to go on but I thought you might like to hear from someone who has been there the past couple of seasons.
