Anyone hunting a Bear on the Fall unit 22 bear tag?

Curious, a buddy of mine and I are heading up this weekend to hunt for a couple of weeks in the unit 22 area. Anyone else hunting that Bear tag or that area and seeing Bears. Curious if any luck or observations on their habits in the fall. Thanks in advance, and a Good luck to everyone this Fall.

You should have started hunting that when it opened. Now you will be competing with all of the deer hunters running around shooting 2 points. There are tons of bears in that area. Saw a couple last week and helped a friend hunt the spring hunt a couple years ago. Sit on a high point and glass glass glass. They are everywhere and you will find them.

I pondered that, unfortunately my schedule would not allow it. I actually drew the tag this spring as well (crazy luck) and my wife and I didn't tag a Bear. Hunted for a week and only saw three. Called the biologist and he said it was a very strange spring. Hoping for better luck this fall, would you recommend watching the berry crop for fall bears in that area? Thanks.

I drove through some access yes property today off of hwy 71 with apple trees. Obviously this is low country for unit 22 but the trees were loaded with apples so no bears down there if that helps.

Appreciate the feedback, it all helps. Anyone have any past hunting success pics from this unit of any kind? Would love to see regardless of animal. Thanks

Saw a ton bordering 22 in 31, but I wasn't in 22. Literally saw 3-5 a day. Most of them were extremely fat and large. But I'd assume a lot of those were the same bears over and over. Had one scare the crap out of me.

We were walking out just before dark I hear a noise and look up and a bear is barreling at me at full speed at 40-50 yards. I scream get back at the top of my lungs. He stops, sits down, and stares at me. Nock an arrow and my dad pulls out his pistol. Fired a warning shot, he kept staring, fired another and he finally went the other way.

Honestly think he was just running and didn't know I was there and we somehow intersected at the same point at the exact same time. Hopefully at least haha.

wow, Nice looking bear, looks like a fall hunt? I will be hunting in the Hornet creek area, hoping some bears are running in that area next week. Thanks everyone for the feedback, love hearing the stories and seeing the pictures.

Wow drew spring too!? Ive been putting myself and entire family in the last 3 years on both hunts and have yet to draw anybody. Find draws with water in the bottom and hunt around those.

Appreciate it, curious if all the rain forecasted will change that tactic. Yeah, I was shocked as well. I usually go years in between drawing tags.

Good to know I was wondering. They need thinned about a bit. They were actually annoying there were so many. Don't hunt bear myself

No I hunt draws with water no matter the forecast. I'd say stay within a mile of major creeks and rivers. The further from human traffic the better.

Yessir. Fall bear, last week of the hunt.

Very strange, I have been in unit 22 for a week now and have not seen a bear yet, very little sign at all. Any tips or suggestions? I am at a loss, been hiking in miles every day, glossing my eyes out, and nothing. Hoping for some insight from my fellow hunter's. Thanks.
