LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-16 AT 06:57PM (MST)[p]LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-16 AT 06:53?PM (MST)

I beat the odds and pulled a unit 22 nov 1-24 deer tag.
Any suggestions about where to hunt early? Will most of the deer still be up high? What kind of expectations should I have for deer numbers and size of bucks? My best buck to date is 185 gross- I am hoping to find a bigger one than that. Is that a totally unreasonable expectation? Thanks

The bucks will be low pushing does early. Best hunting is first two weeks. 185+ isnt unrealistic at all. Bring good glass and good boots.

Uh hey Idshedhead.........can you help me with why you prefer the first two weeks as compared to the last two weeks?

Thanks,

I agree ,start hunting on November 1 . The big ones usually get killed first 10 days. They are out searching for does not holed up breeding in one canyon.
Bucks over 180 are definitely out there.
Post a picture of the one you kill and good luck!

First two weeks is when your gonna find the big boys or roaming looking to herd up. After those weeks your bigger bucks will start to hole up and almost start the post rut activity. Nothing under 185 is a shooter on this hunt if you ask me.

I got back for the weekend to prepare a sermon and preach on Sunday before going back out. The hunting has been good they are rutting hard already- Thanks for the advice of going early
I have been hunting hard and have seen a lot of mature 4 point bucks 2- 170 inchers, and one 180 inch heavy horned buck. I am trying to hold out for a monster, but I have never passed up bucks this size before. Stay tuned for pictures ...my trigger finger is getting itchy.

This was a really fun hunt. I wish I could have been able to hunt the whole season. I had to get home so I ended up shooting a decent 165 inch buck on my last full day to hunt, November 10. We looked hard for that 180 in buck but never saw him again. I feel very blessed to have been able to enjoy such a good hunting experience.

Thanks you all so much for the advice and personal messages. If anyone still has this tag and wants any info I would be more than happy to share. Blessings Josh
