Unit 55 late archery

Going to head to 55 to hunt the late archery opener. Haven't hunted there in several years and was wondering how the herd was doing? Anyone hunted there lately?

LAST EDITED ON Nov-12-16 AT 11:06PM (MST)[p]I'm hoping to be able to go and hunt there too. It's been a couple years since I've hunted it. I know the unit had gone down hill in terms of trophy quality. At least that's my opinion. It is still, however, a good unit for deer. The late archery hunt can be difficult because of super crunchy snow. Makes it hard to sneak up on anything. You can see deer and have fun trying, though.

Same thing we experienced last few times we have hunted it. Plan on being there the first 5 days of the hunt. Doesn't look like much weather between now and then so the snow may not be an issue. Last deer hunt of the year so it will just be nice to be out with bow in hand one more time!

Any report on 55 yet? Looks like there has been quite a bit of weather and looking to have more this week. We will be headed over on the 9th for a few days. Hope there is a bunch of fresh snow before then to get the big boys moving down.

I am not picky, I would shoot a gay buck just the same as a straight one. I was reading that the deer down there migrate to the East, I figure it will take some snow to get them all moving because most people are saying they never see any deer on the east side of the unit during the Oct. rifle hunt. The deer here in NE Oregon don't migrate to the low lands unless they have to because of snow.

>If the "big boys" haven't moved
>down already then they're gay,
>regardless of snow.

How has anyone done in Unit 55 yet? I'm sure the snow is getting deep over there and hoping the deer are down more in the flats. Headed out this weekend.

Good luck over there, I ended up not being able to go due to the big storm we got in NEO last week messing up the roads. My buddy was in Boise and went. Crap visibility and he spent 6 hours stuck in the snow up out of Elba. He said the snow was super deep, he was frustrated and left for home Saturday. I would imagine if you get a nice clear day the hunting will be great.
