Hello Guys,
I'm with Freedom Hunter's a Non-profit organization that takes out combat wounded veterans on hunting, fishing and sporting adventures.
I am looking at some Special Big Game Tags for Idaho for moose and Elk that were able to obtain for these veterans. They are not OTC or Controlled hunts but additional special tags just for Disabled Veterans. I have a group of guys(3) that want to hunt Moose and (4) veterans that wish to hunt Elk. I have hunted cow elk in unit 55-56 on a Private ranch which we have permission to hunt but I want to see what area has the best opportunity for these deserving veterans to harvest.
I am in the process of trying to get some horses for a pack in hunt for 2017 and want to start early and see what we can find for these veterans. I want them to harvest some great bulls. If anybody has a location for a unit we should apply for please let me know. I would like an area that has a vast population of bulls for these guys to all harvest. They don't have to be the biggest horns but would like some good bulls for these guys to take home as a Thank You for their service.
we have received some great sponsors to help us with this hunt and we're looking forward to making it a success. We are still looking for several more veterans to go with us on these hunts and it will probably be a Televised hunt with our organization. So any help on the units for Elk and Moose would help greatly and Thank You guys and gals for any info.

I'd be interested in trying to help with a hunt like this if you're looking for any support in the panhandle area. Do you know if these hunts for moose are limited to certain areas or how exactly it works?

Hello N-Corey,
Hey we are always excited to have guys want to help us out with these veteran hunts. As you know when we take out a large group of guys hunting big game animals it gets pretty tough for one guy to stretch out for everyone lol.
And how it was explained to me is we submit our paperwork and submit the veteran. IDFG has 10 tags set aside just for this hunt and we tell them what unit we would like to hunt and as long as there are spots open within those 10 tags we will get one for the veteran.
The only area I saw Moose was in unit 55 and 56 when I took some veterans out last year and there was no way these guys could have made that trek to where they were located (mostly double or triple amputee veterans and fresh out of the Warrior Transition Unit) we would have needed horses or mules.

I would also like to help out in anyway I can. I am in southern Idaho. if I can help in any way let me know. there are some good units for elk and moose in southern Idaho.

Hey Idahoforkhorn,
Thanks that would be great we really appreciate the help. Im really just wanting these guys to harvest an nice bull elk it doesn't have to be a 375' bull just something nice for them for meat and a set of horns for their home to remind them of the hunt.
And I would like to talk with you more about the areas you think we should look at.

So I am looking at Unit 40 for the veteran hunt for 2017 that seems to be a good unit from what I hear and there is good shot opportunities for the veterans were taking. Has anyone hunted this unit before and have some pointers they're willing to share.
