Winter's Toll

I wonder why they don't ban Japanese yew. It is poisonous to most creatures and if its not indigenous to the area why not ban it like the quagga (spelling) mussel and other non-native plants with the damage it causes to wildlife. 50 antelope died in Payette from it, 8 elk died in boise a few weeks ago from it, some elk died in Ketchum a couple/few weeks ago from it. I saw where some died in Salt Lake City area from it. That is a huge loss to wildlife by a plant that can easily be replaced with another species that looks just as good if not better.

Couldn't agree more with you. In fact, you could add 10+ species to that list. Non-native species spring up all over the place and displace our native flora. I fought morning glory on my farm for years, also, dalmatian toadflax, starthistle, and knapweed. Some of those hitched rides over here, while the toadflax and morning glory were planted. I would like to see a law that the importation of known noxious, toxic, or invasive plants is a criminal offense.
