All, I'm a long time mm member, minimal poster. I'm looking to possibly hunt deer and elk in Idaho in the future. I have no points and will start building points this year. I'd like to draw every 5 years or so. I'm an experienced hunter and can hunt archery or rifle. I'm in good shape. I don't need to hunt areas with giants but I would like to shoot 160" or 300" type animals. I'm not looking for anyone's honey hole. Just decent units. I have quite a bit of knowledge about CO and AZ. Thanks to anyone willing to get me started in the right direction.

Idaho doesn't have a point system so you can never guarantee drawing here. Most deer opportunities are over the counter and many elk opportunities, there are some elk zones that have a quota but they are sold 1st come, 1st served and there is an overall quota of non resident tags available, but they very rarely sell out. If you are interested in sheep, goats or moose you can only apply for 1 species of the 3, and you become disqualified from deer, elk and antelope draws for that season, if you are just looking for deer and elk you can apply for both as well as antelope in the same season. If you do make a plan to hunt OTC units you may as well buy your license early and apply in the controlled hunt draws. I think I just summed it up pretty well but if you have anymore questions feel free to ask
