Little Help with Unlimited Draw

I have a friend with a lot of property in Idaho and has giving me the ok to take my 10 year old son on his 1st deer hunt. The unit is 73 100% unlimited draw. I have never applied for Idaho so I am new to their system. Can I put him in for a harder to draw unit as a 1st choice and then the 100% draw as a second choice and still get the tag if he doesn't draw his 1st choice.

I am pretty sure that looking at last year that this will not work as a second choice unit based on looking at the regs but wanted to double check.

Any advice would help. He researched Idaho on his own and found out he can hunt at 10 so he is excited and his money saved up for a tag.

Thanks

So Unit 73 is an Unlimited (100%) draw but is 1st choice only, so in short no. It was that way until a couple of years ago but they changed it because that was what a lot of people were doing. Still if you want to try and pull a higher end tag there are plenty of good open units as well if you don't draw. Also make sure that he has his hunter education completed before the application period closes (which I believe is June 5) or I do not believe he will be allowed to apply. Hope this helps.

That answered your question, but believe me if your friend has a bunch of land and it holds deer, you will want to hunt that. Odd's to draw a better hunt are too slim to really consider, IMHO.

Plus skip deer and put in for your trophy species.
