Like I said before. Thanks to all of you for your experience and insight. I really appreciate it. I hunted unit 43 Idaho hard last season and only saw two bucks in 10 days. Both 2x2's and I passed on both in hopes they can grow a little bigger. It was a little discouraging but I love 43 and will not give up. I was wondering if any of you could suggest some places in 43 that I may see some better deer. I'd never ask for honey holes but just suggestions on areas to cover. I'm a fireman and due my schedule have the time in October to hunt hard. Whatever you think could help me out. If you don't want the world to see please PM me or shoot me and email at [email protected]. Enjoy life my brothers and sisters.

I hunted 43 last year, passed 22 bucks before I killed my first buck, 155" 4x4, then passed another 3 bucks before I killed my second buck, and my personal best, a 178 3/8" 4x4. Pack up into Jumbo Mtn., and Trinity Mtn. Both are great places to kill giants. I've personally seen 4 bucks over 200" come off of Trinity Mtn. There's quite a few motorcycle/pack trails that lead into those areas, best advice is to pack in on foot where most humans won't go, If you do, I'll see you in the back country...Good luck this season!!

That's awesome. Nice that you're willing to share info too.

Are you normally seeing the deer at higher elevation? There's usually not much bigger buck migration until the last week.

On average I find the deer around 5-6000 ft elevation, with a few places being over 7,000 ft. Both of my bucks came off of a secluded water hole that sets around 5,500 ft.

Lol, I love it!!!!! You know of four 200inch bucks taken there and you're posting the info on the internet? Sorry, I'm not biting. I know that country might pop out a decent buck now and then (if you catch them passing through) but I've seen way too many hunters up there to expect anything special.

And if by chance your info is accurate, why not just keep your mouth shut instead of ruining someone's spot? All you do is look like a supreme idiot!

This type of specific info is best relayed via private message. And yes it strikes a bit too close to home for comfort. Trinity mtn is in 39 BTW.

I agree, sharing specific spots should probably be done via PM. I don't have a ton of information on 43, but I hunt a neighboring unit with similar terrain, so I have a few ideas. First off, I would really try to dial in a few solid glassing points. I try to spend all day on them. The bucks are most active morning and evening obviously, but they tend to move once or twice during the day. Even if they bed in the dark, they may pop up at 2pm randomly. Elevation is your friend. I also still hunt the top 10% of the mountain and picked up a few good bucks that way. There are good deer in there. That being said, I think there is a really good buck or more in every unit in the state. 43 is getting crowed though. Eastman's has talked it up, and it sits between Boise and Twin Falls. It's a couple hours tops from a million people. So your going to burn some boot rubber getting seperation. Just got to dig those bigger bucks up. Good luck!

One thing is sure.....he'll have plenty of company on the mt as everyone looking to hunt Idaho will check those spots out.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-28-17 AT 11:36AM (MST)[p]Ok...south of trinity mt, secluded water hole, 5,500 ft, look the for 200 inchers running rampant. Got it! See you all there! You can always a tell the guys who haven't been burned yet. I was so free with info a few years back. My little spot is terrible now.

archery hunt was unsucessful. made lots of stalks and deer were everywhere. hunted for a week on the opener and didn't see in a buck in 7 days.

I hunted the opening week of rifle in 43. Unfu--ingbelievable the ammount of people. I hike passed the crowds and hunted hard. I saw 3 does and 0 bucks in 7 days. I thought with the early snow I'd see at least a few bucks. none. No clue what i'm doing anymore. pretty discouraged. hope you all have had better luck than me.

We just got back from that unit.

We were bear hunting though. Didn?t see any bears. Saw maybe 20-30 deer. One little tiny buck.

Hunted 2 days.

Holy cow for the people!!

>yea. the amount of people
>blew me away more than
>the deer numbers. it
>looked like a small army
>out there.

Sounds like a common theme in most southern Idaho units
Fish/Game needs to shut down most uncontrolled open hunts
