My battle buddy and I are planning a trip to challis this year we have purchased elk deer bear and wolf tags. Elk and mule deer being primarily focus wolf and bear if we just happen upon one. We plan on getting up there the 9th of october and staying until 26th we will be hauling my 5th wheel up from Texas. Any one have any thoughts or opinions on deer or elk in the area. I hunted Selway last season with out seeing a animal in 3 weeks and miles after miles of hiking we decided to try this area instead. What should we look for as far as cover and food for the animals. Any tips or tactics appreciateted

Should have put in for a controlled tag just for the heck of it. It's not too late, it would be a good idea to check into it. What unit in the selway were you in?

We thought about the controlled tags but my buddy wanted to get something locked down when we drover through there on the way home we saw a nice 5x5 almost got him with the truck he jumped right in front of us lol

LAST EDITED ON May-30-17 AT 11:13PM (MST)[p]Haha I hope you didn't spill your beer. Good to have a tag locked in I guess. Maybe better to stay out of the draw lol. Sounds like you got a head start on a sweet spot :D

Hell I had to stop at the next gas station to check the trailer I almost lost it when I slammed the breaks talk about soiling yourself lol

You should take the advice and apply for a controlled hunt, second choice where you're planning on hunting.

Any controlled unit is better than any OTC unit "UNLESS " you hunt it repeatedly and know it.

Just my 2 cents.
