I drew the muzzleloader tag for deer Oct 1-9....I am pretty familiar with the south west side of the unit hunting elk in archery season for the last 17 years. And have been there on a controlled rifle tag in November when my dad had it, a few years ago. I have never tried to find bucks in this area first week of october. Just looking for advice on this unit post archery season. Top of cuddy, brownlee/oxbow breaks, mid elevation in timber, cecil?....thanks for any conversation

I hunt 18 next door and the deer are where you find them there doesn't seem to be an elevation at that time of the year. Hunted them at 7,500 on October 10 and clear down on the river. Just finding pockets of deer.

I can't offer much help , yet . My son has the late tag and we'll be scouting a ton as well as elk hunting in 22 . I'll be glad to pass on any useful information between now and the hunt . Feel free to PM if you want to.

If you have been archery hunting in 22 for 17 years, you should know it like the back of your hand. It's a small unit. It's still pretty hot that first week of October. I'd be looking for water and cover.
