Unit 18 Rifle Buck And Bull

I was fortunate enough to have drawn both tags, been in and around that country a fair share. Figured I'd reach out and see if I can get a little bit of input from anyone that is willing to share. I'll be up there in the coming weekends getting a better feel for the country and hopefully get some animals sighted. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Wow that has to be pretty lucky to draw both in one year.
I had the deer tag in 2014, it was a huge disappointment. We saw 4-5 bucks a day all small ones and mostly from the truck. We had horses and mules and rode the trails as much as we could but still saw more deer driving around.
One of the other hunters we met on horse back said the same thing.
But it was unusually warm that year.
That being said I would take the deer tag again in a second.
We did see elk everywhere though.

I drew the elk tag this year and plan to take the live stock again.
I talked to a bio the other day about the unit. He could not have been less helpful if he worked for Peta.

How much time will you have to go?

Best of luck to you.
Having both tags should be fun.

I was there in 2014 with a elk tag and saw tons of bucks. One hillside we would see 15 bucks or more a day ! Hunted it for deer in 2013 and saw a ton of bucks. There are pockets that hold lots of deer. Gotta find those pockets. I hiked 6 mi into the wilderness and never turned up a deer. Walked a road and found over 30 bucks in a 2 mile stretch .

I drew the earlier deer tag Springville, and thats good to hear HuntNNW, some guys with the same tag might have a completely different experience and come away with different views of the unit. Appreciate your input!

Been on 3 different deer hunts and elk. Seen lots of deer on all hunts. Doesn't sound like winter really effected the deer either
