Unit 52 Elk

LAST EDITED ON Jul-02-17 AT 08:52PM (MST)[p]I drew a unit 52 December either sex elk tag. I have never been in the unit this late. And could use a little help. I think I am going to stay in Gooding. And I am going to start out hunting north of Gooding on the BLM land. I will be holding out for a good bull. Maps have been ordered and I have been trying to get ahold of the bio but haven't been able to yet. Right now I am planning to hunt the 4th - 14th. But that could change as I collect more information. Anyway if anyone has some pointers on where to start or where to stay away from I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

I drew the August tag. I spent last weekend driving 900 miles and tiptoeing through the brush trying to dodge snakes. I saw one cow elk. I spent my time glassing with very little luck

I was wondering if anyone had some info for early season elk, glassing points or anything that might lead to a bull.

Here's a 52 bull shot in the last day or two.
Came out of a cornfield.
I don't know the hunter just a friend of a friend.

I have hunted that unit several times with the muzzleloader in Sept. I have seen them off the Gooding Fairfield hwy near the top of the summit to the west. Look for some way in thru the private land (it is there). Also 90% are on the preserve out of Picabo.

I just figured out telling you to look west of the summit. That is 45, sorry, the muzzleloader includes 52 and 45. My mistake.

Didn't kill anything. Saw a ton of elk and a lot of small bulls. Thank you to everyone that helped.

I had the same experience but did manage to take a 310 bull. Biggest I saw until after I shot him.
