I know this is a very common post, I drew November rifle buck tag and spent some time on south mountain this morning, anyone have any advise they would be willing to give? I was not fond of the 65 miles till cell service today but saw lots of good area!!! If anyone is willing to give insight I pay in beer and dinner if located in treasure valley!

Thanks in advance guys!!!

I had the tag last year and ate it. Passed on a 170-175" 4 point (mistake 1) and a 28" 3 point (mistake 2). I did see one giant buck right at dark over by South Mtn but couldn't find him in the morning. Lots of private over there to work around and it blocks a bunch of access. I started hunting about Nov. 8 and counted on the weather (mistake 3). I would look in the Toy Pass area and around the area from Jordan Valley east to the mine. Really thick but quite a few deer. I might also start earlier, like opening day. Unless you get weather, after about 11/18 or so the rutting activity dropped off and bucks were hard to find. By the last day, I counted over 100 does and 2 bucks, both forked horns vs. on 11/10 when I saw a buck for every 10-15 does. Just smaller 4's or 3's. Tons of big 2 points.

That is some absolute amazing info! Thank you very much, did you spend much time around the juniper mtn or triangle area? I was advised to spend some time north of the mine and east of silver city. When did you start scouting, and come November 1 the deer should be up high still and not migrating Down am I correct?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-26-17 AT 10:43PM (MST)[p]I spent my time from South Mtn north to Delemar and around Toy Pass. The bucks were moving a lot better earlier in spite of the weather. I didn't scout like I should have because I was counting on weather that never came. Don't do that. By November 1 the bucks are starting to look for does but that doesn't mean they are "coming down" or migrating. Just cruising.

I was thinking the same thing, i will be heading out next weekend and spend the morning out there I will get a hold of ya, it's a long drive to do there and back with scouting but worth it!

Hey did you happen to see any nice Bull Elk in the area. I have a disabled veteran were taking out to get his first big game animal. He drew 1 of 5 disabled veteran tags for the Elk tag. I plan on coming up early and doing some scouting before he arrives and setting up camp so when he gets here he is good to go.

I have seen 2 very respectable bulls on south mountain and I heard them bugling 2 weekends ago out passed silver but didn't pursue looking for them

Hey Clubbes, Thanks and I will have to check in that area I'm pretty sure they will be moving all over the place but gives me a good place to start looking for my veteran. Thanks NevadaJames
