I feel a liitle baseful about asking because I never have anything to contribute to the Idaho forum.

If you believe I'm out of line, please feel free to say so.

I was unsuccessful in the Wyoming deer draw, so I'm working on a Plan B.

My sons and I are wondering where we should go this fall, to rifle hunt for white tail deer in Idaho. It would need to be on a unit with a fair amount of public access and offer over rhe counter tags.

Thank you for any recommendations that you don't mind sharing.

Check out unit 1 not tons of deer and you only see a few a day, but the odds of a mature buck are very high. Pretty much anything North of Lewiston will put you in whitetail country.

8A and 10A have lots of deer and access. Again, anything north of Lewiston fits your bill. Whitetail tag, just have to plop your $ down, always plenty of tags.

Good on you guys. Nice see someone humbly ask for help and receive it and not get blasted by the internet police. Refreshing.

Also i was thinking on this post and a more specific area for whitetail is unit 6, tons of roads and huge clearcuts with the opportunity for longer shots also. Check out the back roads behind Clarkia in November. That's where the 194 inch state record came from and lots of nice bucks every year. Best with an atv, but doable out of the truck.

Lol, just let him ask the same question for mule deer!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-25-17 AT 03:59PM (MST)[p]Great thread and great site, gentlemen.

Fortunately, I too will be hunting in North Idaho, this fall in unit 10A to be exact. Just got my tags.

This will be my second hunting trip to that great state. The first hunting trip was in 36A around Challis If memory serves correctly. What an adventurous hunt- no shortage of events... LOL

True big sky country.

Would it be ok if I PM'd one of you gents about 10A? I've never been there and any advice would be greatly appreciated

Best of luck on the hunt, 2lumpy

My one and only whitetail came from 23 I definatly wouldn't pick that unit to whitetail hunt he just happen to walk by me and I couldn't resist.

Sorry I haven't checked on this post for a few weeks. I have been out of town since the middle of July and haven't had a chance to check out all of my inquiries since returning.

Thanks to all those who have made suggestions and offered recommendations. They have been very helpful. It sounds like the information has helped others with a similar interest as well. That's great, I hope each of you have a productive fall, enjoying successful hunting adventures, where ever those adventures might take you.

Ditto- I hope everyone has a productive season.

Personally I 'm looking forward to getting back into the mountains in Idaho. It's one of my favorite states.

Does anyone have specific direction or any advice in particular for hunting in 10A?

I also bought an Elk tag.
