LAST EDITED ON Aug-03-17 AT 05:01PM (MST)[p]Hey guys I drew a Deer tag for unit 73 this year. I am from Idaho and know other areas pretty well but I haven't hunted this unit much. Has anyone else hunted this unit that has any advise or suggestions? What to look for.... Where to look.... Areas to avoid.... What I should expect?? I'm not looking to invade any ones secret spot.

Any and all advise is much appreciated.

Thanks

I have hunted Idaho my whole life and know other areas well and am willing to help a guy out with other areas if I can

JUST FYI
I have been a long time member and contributor to monstermuleys.com but for some reason my old account wont let me login or reset my password so I had to make a new account
(I'm not one of those guys that draws a tag and wants every ones info to help him)

Good luck this season. I hunt the unit almost every year. There's bucks through out. High and low. During the hunt there's hunters through out also. Do some scouting before the season if you can. Things will get stirred up a day or two before the season opener with all the hunters coming in but you'll know what's in the area.
I personally think that if you spend every hour of every day of that 7 day season out in the field looking for deer you're chances are better than average. I'm assuming you're hunt dates are Oct. 10-16. I haven't found any other special strategy. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-13-17 AT 07:38PM (MST)[p]This unit is a great unit to hunt when there is less than 1000 people hunting it. When it gets to 1300 or 1400,it's too crowded for me. This year there is over 1800. It's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

To say you drew that tag really is not accurate. It is unlimited so basically you just bought it. Unless you did actually draw one of the five late tags available to residents. Unfortunately The early unlimited hunt is a utard invasion. There are some places you could get away from most of the crazys but It's not easy.
I know the area west of I 15 really well. Shoot me a PM and will get started with helping you out.

Thanks for the heads up about things getting stired up. I think I should be able to get out a bit in September to scout so hopefully I can get a head start. Thanks again

Well thats what I was hoping to avoid. The unit I've been hunting the last few years has almost 3000!! So I'm still optimistic that it will be better than that.

It's getting hard to compete with all the out of stateres these days. I don't blame them for coming to hunt here but there are a lot more than there use to be.
