28-1 sheep Tag

I have a buddy who drew a tag in 28-1. Wondering if anyone had hunted it in the past or knows anything about it. It would be great to have some info about past hunts. He is planning on staying the whole season up there. He has made a few scouting trips but has come up short on rams so far. Thanks!

RE: 28-1 sheep Tag

I haven't hunted it but have researched it some. most of the unit has burned which made the sheep spread out. your buddy has the right plan. spend time in there and eventually you should find them. staying mentally tough and not getting discouraged after not seeing sheep for days or weeks will be the ticket. I'm in the same boat in another unit. haven't found a ram scouting just ewe's. the fires and smoke are proving to be a difficult obstacle. good luck to your buddy!

A friend had this tag a couple years ago. He hunted 2-3 days a week for the entire season. Found some young rams occasionally, but the mature ones were pretty elusive and treed up for the most part. Finally located them the last week. He missed! Oh well, there's always next time. Good luck on your hunt.

Tough hunt. Coming up short on rams in there will be a common theme throughout his experience. Theres a guy on another popular forum with that same tag and one thing he mentioned was hoping to contact the other tagholders if possible. If that other guy isnt your buddy you might put them in touch so they can compare notes or whatever.

RE: 28-1 sheep Tag

I hunted that unit with my brother in law about 6 years ago. It's a hard tag he shot an average ram I'll look for the pics and post a bit later. This year they changed the boundaries and it takes in both sides of panther creek in my opinion that is fantastic. It will really help.

Thanks guys. Yea I think its all about putting time in for that tag. What forum was the other tag holder using? I will try and put them in contact with each other. I have him some decent starting spots but the more knowledge the better he will be.

Here's my brother in laws ram from 28-1. It was a few years ago and if memory serves there hadn't been a very good success rate in that unit in a number of years do we went in with an attitude that if we find even a decent ram we should go for it. We scouted 10-12 days and found this guy on the second day of the hunt and it was a huge undertaking to get to him and get him out. I love looking at these pics as it reminds me of a better time when I could do physically demanding hunts. Fantastic adventure. I do think with the expansion of the unit it'll be a more quality hunt. Good luck.

Ps. I'm glad I figured out how to post the pics ?

Hey pooner any updates on this sheep hunt? I got a pic of a ram shot yesterday in 28-2. Got me thinking of you guys.

RE: 28-1 sheep Tag

Awesome man thanks for posting. I think killing a sheep is just icing on a cake for a sheep hunt. I think my buddy is geared up and ready to start on his adventure!

RE: 28-1 sheep Tag

He isn't going to be up there for about 4 more days I think. He isn't leaving until he kills a sheep or runs out of time.
