So I was fortunate to draw a moose tag in unit 60. I'm fired up about it hopefully I can find a big bull. Here is a little guy we found last weekend.

Hopefully I'll find something a little better this weekend!

If you have plenty of time to hunt, don't get in a rush to pull the trigger. Moose sightings will only get better over the next few weeks. Stop and talk to all the archery hunters you can, most will tell you about any moose they have seen. Good luck. If you keep posting pictures and updates on your hunt, you will probably also get some moose sightings from monstermuley members.

Thanks Brian that's my plan here is September. Since I don't have a big one located I'll chit chit with the archers. I'm heading out again this weekend. Hopefully I'll have some pics to post.

The moose rut is heating up. We saw 12 moose this morning with 3 bulls not quite what I'm looking for. We called one in to 18 yards! Super fun.

Try glassing for moose instead of mule deer!!
This has been a fun hunt with our glassing sessions.
I can't wait to get back after it with this colder weather.

I have a 61-3 moose tag and not finding any bulls, not what I remember from when I used to hunt the Island Park area 20 years ago.

Time for an update. I went out Monday night and Tuesday. I saw 30 moose 12 bulls. But no shooters! I'm hoping they'll show up soon. Heading black out tomorrow. Here's one I drove right up to.

Check out most people's definitions.

Good one - Close to the road.

Great one -Even bigger, and also close to the road.

Most residents truly do not want to hunt hard for big black stinky bull moose!

? I think that is well said. I need a big one close to the road! I'd hike and hunt "harder" if I could that's for sure.

Time for an update.

Well after hunting and scouting I put in about 20 days and saw tons of moose and many bulls. But nothing to get to excited about....

Then I found this guy. We spotted him at first light from about 2 miles away. As the sun came up we realized we needed a closer look. We found a little road that closed the distance to about 400 yards and busted out the glass and it didn't take long to make the decision.

I know that score wise he's not much to shake a stick at but I loved his palms and his fronts. And he has an amazing coat with a super cool grey/light brown streak going down his back like a grizzly bear. It was also super awesome to share this time with my brother in law on this experience.

And I've got to give a big thanks to all my buddies that came and helped and the others that volunteered to cut him up and load him up. Considering that both guys out there were disabled we really needed the help. As soon as I pulled the trigger we sent out a text and had 7 guys show up and about 5 others that were willing and ready to drop what they were doing to help. Love having good friends.

The Accubonds did work.

I got it all on video will cherish it forever. (No idea how to share that)

Congrats on a nice bull.. All that hard work scouting paid off. Glad you were able to get some good help to get it out.

Here's that good one, great one moose scenario I mentioned to you before!!!!!

It sounds like you squeezed every ounce of fun out of that tag and looked over a lot of moose. Great bull. Congratulations.

Great Moose it has always been a dream of mine to shoot a moose

Congrats great eating as my Uncle got one years ago and I remember the meat and roasts being great.

So I'm the ugly brother in law that was able to be there with onelegwonder on this hunt. Let me tell everyone that doesn't know him, there are few that enjoy the hunt as much as him. The great thing about this moose tag and unit is it allowed onelegwonder to play the game. He was able to scout, glass, and had enough roads/trails to get him where he needed to be. Before his accident there were few that could keep up with him in the mountains. Now it's different but he does the best he can to help others in their hunts. Instead of pouting at home on the couch he will go and try to get to vantage points to help glass or drop off buddies at one location and pick them up hours later at another location. Anything to help or be part of the hunt.

So after having said all of this, I am really glad he was able to do this hunt and end up with a great moose!!!

Blank,

I understand completely your scenario now ?

congrats on a great bull! sounds like you had a awesome time. thanks for sharing the stories and pics also.

Thanks for all your great comments guys! It sure was a fun hunt. And that night I told my wife although I just pulled the trigger today on my OIL tag. I can't help but think how can I do this again??!! I'll just have to live vicariously through others and help them out!

I got my moose meat back from the processor today. And cooked up some steaks in a pepper steak dish over rice. It was so good! So tender and juicy I was pleasantly surprised. I hope the roasts and burger taste half as good.
