32 fall bear

I got lucky and drew this tag on second chance. I've hunted it in the spring and have some locations to check out but am curious on a few things from others who have hunted this unit for bear in the fall.

What are the bears feeding on in the fall? (not counting gut piles)

Are they found in higher densities at a particular elevation?

Are the hounds an issue for someone not using hounds and looking to spot and stalk?

Is it possible to predator call in a good bear? Never tried but I'd like to try and spot and stalk with archery gear. figured getting close and mouse squeeking might be a fair method. If I'm not finding good bears, I was thinking of finding some roadless thicker country and getting loud on the call with a rifle on standby.

Are the bears active all the way through Oct 31 or is earlier in the hunt better?

Anyone have any luck finding a decent buck while hunting bear?

Thanks in advance. lots of questions but figured some of you may have some input.
Happy Hunting!

Berry patches still work great. I would hunt sept more than October, our last trip pine cone nuts came on and they were all timbered up. As opposed to the spot and stalk opp we had that are similar to spring techniques. Low level if hot and dry, sage creek bottoms. If water and still green hunt mid level. Hunt where hounders don't go. I.e North side of Middle fork of Payette on big peak, can't remember the name. Predator call not as effective for blind calling. RIP Lil Bro' "Huntnfever"

Thanks! I won't be able to go until October but will try and find one early in October. Great info. Thanks again.

Keep your eyes up for birds. Kill-sites and gut-piles are always a great bet for sucking in fall bears.

According to a IDFG harvest report, the best two weeks for bear are September 1 - 15th.

Wishing I had the wiser river elk tag now!

finally was able to head out Sunday. Did not see a single bear in areas that I have seen them quite regularly in years past. I can't recall if I've looked for them this late though either so my normal spots may not be any good at this point.

Question to narrow my focus on a couple other locations I'm eyeballing. This far into the fall, is there a typical slope exposure that they prefer?

Lots of elk running around?

Only hunted one day. quite a few deer. no elk yet...lots of the early season cow elk hunters though it seemed, or at least a lot of camps set for the upcoming season. you get the elk tag?

Nope, just wondering. No Weiser tag for me. When a buddy on here had the fall bear tag he was finding lots of elk in that mid country not far from the road systems.

Found two bears last night. Would have been a hike to get around private and I did not have time on a short evening hunt. At least I saw bears though.

I also saw a herd of elk and 10 does. Not bad for only about 45 mins of evening to hunt.

Bearman, how familar are you with 32? PM me and I can hopefully give you a few areas to look for your bear, if you're still needing any info.

PM Semt...

Tried Dodson Pass and Bear Gulch on Saturday. Saw plenty of hunters but no bear. I only saw one small bear track in bear Gulch. Glassed a lot of country east of 3rd fork and no bear sightings there either. Spoke to a number of hunters and no one saw bear that I spoke to. I think I'll check that area off the map for fall bear.
