Anyone have any experience in these units? I'm thinking of taking a look up there this season. Any info would be helpful as I've never been there before.

I spent some time around Kooskia moose hunting for a couple weeks. Not a ton of critters in that thicker cover.

I have found that the more information you provide, you typically get a better response. Are you elk or deer hunting? Whitetails or Mule deer? Rifle hunting? What time of year. Have you spent time in there? Any drainages your thinking of?

Good luck! Hope you find the info your looking for!

I am thinking of going up there for the late deer hunt if I can't fill my tag in 39. I was wondering about the trophy quality of the bucks and how tough it may be to find them during the rut. I have never been there before, so I have no idea about particular drainages or units. I plan on using the camper as a base and using the truck to get around. Any info would be appreciated.

I haven't spent a lot of time in 16a or 17, but there isn't much for vehicle access in 19 or 20. Especially when you are getting on in to November. Bring chains and plan for a quick escape if snow sets in.

I've been planning a wilderness hunt in this unit for a year now. Elk/ deer combo. Rifle , early season. Trip is planned for 2019 , unless I can get there this year, but if I can't hunt this year I plan on flying in for a long weekend and scouting some areas I've picked out this coming August. Ive done a lot of research so far, and from what I'm looking for this area seems to have it. After reading this thread about vehicle access in a few of these units, now I'm a little concerned.. it's hard to tell the shape of the Forrest roads by simply looking at the maps. one of the areas I have picked out is where 17,20 and 16a come together. I plan on remote camping, and staying mobile. Covering as much territory as possible. I will have my girlfriend and possibly her brother and my 20 year old son with me. We are all in good shape and experienced hunters. Being from Texas this will be my dream of a true wilderness hunt. I have many questions like most hunters who have not actually stepped foot in the unit, hopefully some will come to light by a few days scouting this coming summer.
