Is the rut winding down or just getting started? Did a little hunting last weekend and only saw half of the bucks acting rutty, just curious what you think

I have been wondering too. I think either it hasn't started yet or is over. But am leaning more towards it hasn't started yet.

My suspicion is that it may be over. With the high winter kill last winter, there were fewer does to breed which would make for a shorter rut. Hope I'm wrong but it would make sense.

I've always thought that the peak of the rut was a little earlier in Idaho than the States to the south, which makes sense. I typically the most rutting activity the 1st 2 weeks of November.

That's a bummer, I'd say 7/8 herds of deer didn't have a buck with them, or it was a yearling buck

Went out on the 21st with grandson for a doe on 45. A lot of does had bucks with them however, I did see more does without bucks.

Just hunted 73a last week. Definitely on the back side of the rut. Still some bucks with does, but saw tons of does without bucks.
