SPRING BEAR DRAW

I'm going with the 27th or the 1st. Last year it was the 1st.

Anyone have any cool pictures to share from 32 or 22?

I got lucky last year and drew a tag in 32 as a nonresident. Hunting was tough due to the amount of snow. Couldnt get around like I had hoped because of the amount of snow but its awesome country and huge areas to glass. We spent the last 4 days hunting hard and I did kill a bear on the Saturday before the hunt closed. He was an awesome all black bear with just a little patch of white on his chest. I saw 7-8 bears but this was the only one I knew I wanted to harvest. The others were all small or females with cubs. I did see a cinnamon female with a cub that was a tank of a bear as well. It was a very enjoyable hunt did 12-15miles walking a aday just because the roads were all still snowed in and all I had was 4 wheelers we could go in the morning on top of the snow but when it would warm up we would bury the bikes in snow so we did alot of walking. In a normal year you could prob ride 4 wheelers over alot of what I had to walk. I will try and figure out how to post a couple pictures of my bear and the awesome scenery we saw... Deer, elk, bears and turkeys. We didnt see any wolves but we did see some tracks.

Thanks for sharing crownroyal. That echoes some of my experience on the 2 times I've tagged along on the 32 hunt.

Lots of bears, lots of sows with cubs and tons of deer and elk. Sounds like you had a great hunt.

Would love to draw this tag but the odds are pretty long.

Well I wish it was some awesome spot him from 3 miles away hike into some hell hole to get on him but it wasnt... I found his tracks (assume) above a big canyon with a bunch of pines in it the tracks were in the mud but it hadnt rained for a few days so I figured I was way behind him but still decided to slip in the canyon and look around. Hiked part way in and sat and glassed for about 2 hours was getting later in the day and decided to hike all the way in. I hit a logging rd that I was looking for that would eventually lead me back to camp but for some reason I decided to turn left for about a 1/2 mile walk to look into a little side draw. As I came around the corner I thought to myself man I like this spot big deep draw with lots of area to glass. Its alot of logged area and then they burn it and the stumps are big and black. I could see one of those big stumps out of the corner of my eye as I was looking way up the hill just then that big stump started moving. Not being a very skilled bear hunter I was very nervous about shooting a female and had asked alot of questions before the hunt and looked at alot of pictures and the second I put my binos on him I went no doubt a boar and definately big enough for me as he is my first bear. From here it went fast.. Didnt even range him as he was within 100yds couldnt get down cause the grass was to tall so I quietly put in a shell he was slightly quartered to me settled the cross hairs just in front of his shoulder and then said to myself slow down so I took a couple more deep breaths and its just like ya practice touched the trigger and he jumped off the log and I heard gurgling sounds very soon after. Was able to get my brother in law and father in law in there to help me and we had him all wrapped up in about 90-120min. In short I got lucky and stumbled into a booner bear. 20 2/8 is what the taxi said he measured the skull at I am more excited about the jet black fur he is beautiful.. Hope we all get our answers this Friday to see who is lucky this year...

I have a feeling it's going to be right at the deadline. If we remember back to the deer/elk/antelope results last summer, we saw them later then ever. Plus, they are shutting down the licensing tonight, so I doubt it will be too soon.

Here is my 2015 unit 22 bear. I hope I get a chance to hunt there again someday!

I'm guessing the new license system has something to do with the delay. Hope the rest of the draws this year aren't as delayed as this one!

I'm not %100 on this but doesn't the F&G outsource the draws to a third party? I know other states do that. If that's the case the license systems shouldn't effect it. Unless of course it's the same third party that handles it. ?

I believe they do and that third party just switched hands late last week. application season is a love/hate relationship but it's a fun one. Good luck!

Yes. The OTC tags are good backups but we've got a couple of draw units that would be great to get.

It's also a 2nd bear opportunity, that opens 2 weeks earlier than most of the general units.

Starting to wonder...if there is a deadline to apply, is there a deadline to notify successful applicants??? Fingers crossed it's tomorrow and that the new company sifting through applications will start to find my name in the mix. Good luck!

I think the deadline is March 10th isn't it? They probably screwed something up and are sweating bullets right now to get the results out on time...

I don't understand why Wyoming can say their results will be available online on such and such date at 10am. And sure enough, you login to their website and voila! There they are, just like they said.

I didn't think there was a deadline for results, then I looked it up and it says spring bear results will be in the mail by March 10th, so I would assume they already know the results, would've needed to mail those results by today or yesterday at the latest. This new vendor for drawings sucks

I think IDFG is waiting until the last possible moment to notify draw results as a big fat middle finger to the Legislature for messing with the draw system.

>I would agree except this is
>year 2 of them having
>to go to an outside
>vendor

Is it? I thought this was the implementation year.

No they used systems consultants last year, which is the same vendor that runs Nevada, Utah and I believe a few other states

The new system looks similar to New Mexico. It would make sense to use the same vendor/programmer as New Mexico's application system is similar to Idaho. Just tried the back door and nothing has posted there yet. I'd guess we see results tomorrow.

They probably just said screw it guys, were not gonna do the draw this year. Maybe next year!

Thanks for the cash, later gators!

I bet they've got some 16 year old kid trying to recover all the applicants they deleted in the switch.

They have no freaking clue who applied for what ;-)

I heard that they were having issues with the draw, results should be out Monday. I can't for the life of me understand why any draw in this state takes more than 2 weeks to complete, they should seriously print out all the names and drop them in a bucket and do a public draw at the Boise office, they could sell tickets and make money on the draw instead of spending 100,000 or 1 million whatever the number and we would all know that there was no tampering

Great way to increase draw odds! half the people would apply. I'd pay double for the application to make up the difference.

They could still accept applications just as they normally would but they would have to print them all up, that's why they would need a couple of weeks. But then a public draw with a pancake breakfast or prime rib dinner. Have you ever seen how Maine does there moose draw, maybe something to that extent, except with no points. If they did the draw on a day I had available I would pay for a good meal and the chance to hear my name pulled.

Kind of a cool idea.

There's probably a whole flock of whippersnappers down there on Walnut working 24/7 trying to recover all the data!

But seriously, this seems really unprofessional. Besides ID obviously, the only other states I've applied in were NM, WY and MT this year. The other states seemed to have their act together in my limited experience.

This is literally the simplest draw to run, no points, no eligibility questions, I seriously question what is going to happen in the OIL and big game draws if they can't even figure out how to run this one. Prepare for draw results sometime in August

If they are having problems they should put this information on their website so people would know what is happening. I do not like it when I'm kept in the dark. Overall, I support the Fish and Game but the drawing system is something that needs work. I do not see the need for all the time it takes to do a simple drawing. People need to know so they can get time off work etc. There is no need to take over a month to do this.

If I was a NR, I would legitimately be pissed. Those hunts open April 1st if I remember correctly. Pretty unprofessional.

This seems pretty unprofessional and flat out chicken **** for the department to not even post a message on their draw results page.

The least they could do is post something like "due to unforeseen circumstances the spring bear draw is taking longer than expected. We apologize for the delay"

I swear that if I didn't care at all about the conservation aspect I would demand a refund for my application even if I did draw, but I know that I would just be taking money away from the wildlife I care about in the end.

How does the wildlife spend your money?

Do you ##### about the timeframe of the second chance draw for deer and elk also?

The wildlife doesn't spend my money but IDFG does spend the money to ensure the conservation of our wildlife. I care too deeply about that to want to take money from it.

As far as the 2nd draw I never complain about that because I understand the way that it is run and it is a down to the wire situation. The spring bear draw never has and should not take a full month to finish, and they are as of now 2 full days past their own stated deadline to notify successful applicants. If I call them up on June 7th do you think they will be ok with me putting in my deer, elk, and antelope applications?

Sounds like a bunch of complaining towards something out of your control!

How long do you need to plan a hunt?

nothing posted. i would assume under your controlled hunt app it will say Successful or Unsuccessful once they post that information.

>Sounds like a bunch of complaining

>How long do you need to

If your coming from out of state, most guys probably more than 16 days notice.

It looks as if the back door may be working under the controlled hunt section. My Hunt Choice Status changed to "Not Selected", or at least I think it did. Can anyone remember what that said originally?

>Sounds like a bunch of complaining

It's not about how long I need to plan a hunt, it is about delivering on your promises. I am usually very supportive of IDFG but to just leave everybody in the dark and go past the deadline which is stated in the regulations to release the results is a joke, we have almost the simplest draw system of any state, no points, no waiting period on controlled bear and no eligibility issues, if you have a hunting license you can apply and yet it takes nearly a month to deliver results.

I hope that if anybody forgets to apply by the June 5th deadline they will be ok when you call on the 7th or 8th and want to submit your controlled hunt apps because apparently the deadlines no longer matter. And we should get a 2 day grace period on all seasons, so if the regs say season closes Oct 31 go ahead and hunt until Nov 2. It really doesn't matter anyway right Deepcolor

under App Status mine still says "active". Hunt Choice status says "not selected". i don't recall what it said prior. i'd assume that means unsuccessful. oh well, next.

Andrew, you are complaining about something you cannot control!

Do you really think complaining here will make a difference?

Wasted energy my friend. I am not talking trash on you or IDFG, just stating a fact of life.

>I have seen 1 persons say
>selected.

Well #####. There goes my hopes! This new way isn't as intuitive like the big green congratulations!

You can't control what tags you draw, if trophy quality exists where you're hunting, the weather, your health, the economy, your children, politics, how your favorite team plays, or a gazillion other parts of life... in fact, the parts you can control are very small.

But you can control your unhelpful and negative posts, so how about you work on that and let others have fun dreaming about their hunts and hanging out on the forums.

Mine says selected. I'm assuming congratulations is in order. I would prefer a green congratulations so I'm not confused. I've never looked through that app. Idahofishandgame.net or whatever it is. On the main website it's still not posted.

Draw results won't show on main website former draw page.

Grizz, read back through the last couple days here and see who the negative Sh/t comes from.

Congratulations to those who drew!

We can control it. We just need to raise enough of a stink that IDFG can't help but listen to us and change their ways.

And here i sit in washington, still awaiting spring bear results, with the season opening april 1st. And we dont even have any otc spring bear here. You guys think you have it bad, but trust me, it could be worse. For the time being, im planning on hunting idaho unit 1 in may.

Saw a post on Facebook today from a pretty reliable source. Apparently the online results are incorrect and people need to wait to receive cards in the mail. But people who's online profiles showed successful have already been able to purchase tags. If this is the case there are going to be some seriously pissed of people

This seems to confirm the "backdoor" is correct....
