What are the best units for wolf hunting? In other terms where is the highest population of wolves. I'm not a resident but would love to try to help you guys out with the wolf issue.

Unit 27 has a large population of wolves. But a anymore it's a tough hunt to get a wolf. They have smartened up over the last few years. Used to hear them all the time and frequently see them. No they are pretty scarce.

Yeah, 27 and a lot of other units. Northern Idaho will probably have the highest densities. Look at the latest wolf monitoring report on fish and games website. If you think a week is a good amount of time to kill an elk, it's two months for a wolf. Very low success rates because they are super smart and have massive home ranges.

Just thought I would chime in on this. Wolf hunting in this state is not easy. I see lots of non-residents on here asking for recommendations on where to go "help out with the wolf issue."

I live in one of the above mentioned units. I spend 50 days a fall plus countless days shed hunting and scouting. I would say 100 days a year with my binoculars around my neck.

In about a decade of pursuit, I have NEVER even seen a wolf. I have trail camera pictures of them. I have had them howling around me every year. This spring twice. I have found kills and stalked fresh paw marks. But I have never even seen a flash of hide.

I am just wanting to put into perspective on what kind of information you are looking for. We have wolves. Finding one is a tough order. Killing one is legendary. Good luck though! I am rooting for you!

Thanks for the advice. I have heard that from a bunch of people also. Listening to a few podcasts it seems the one common denominator is time in the woods. I'll give it my best. Thanks for the reality check.

Times I have seen them
I was back off from the road a couple of miles
Could of killed one had I not been hunting with a bow!
