Unit 45 muzzleloader

LAST EDITED ON Jul-09-18 AT 10:49AM (MST)[p]I drew a unit 45 muzzleloader deer tag. Never hunted the unit. I'm really excited, any suggestions on where to start ? I'm in good shape, don't mind hiking and hunting hard and spending time scouting. In Boise area.

Congrats. Probably won't get specific info on where is best. Plenty of info here and on Rokslide. Boot leather and range time should be ur best friends this summer. Get OnX map app, (hint).

You drew Idaho unit 45 and 13 B in Arizona. Wow you are one lucky dude. Congratulations you are going to have a busy year.

Wow, I don't know if I'd want to hunt both those units in the same year. Each deserve full dedication with no distractions. But good for you. Congrats...

I drew a 45 rifle tag almost 10 years ago and a 44 bull tag the same year. We had some snow before, and the elk were no where to be found in 44 but the deer seemed to stick it out there a little longer. Ended up eating tag soup on the 44 bull tag and killed a 192 mule deer. I don't have any good pictures of the buck because it was on a different phone. But it was a 27" 5x7 I would search as close to 44 as possible in the beginning and as the snow falls you can move further into 45 I killed mine in a canyon. It's not giving away any secret spots but at least you have a place to start.

There shouldn't be migration into 45 during the muzzleloader season, though, right? That ends in mid October. I know there are plenty of resident deer in 45 still.

Almost zero chance. But they have migrated early in more recent years, but by the 15th would be unlikely.

There are bucks in there. Scouting season is open.

Especially for the muzzloader hunt in the first half of October, scouting is going to be important. Deer densities aren't going to be as high as later in the month, so your better off having a shooter located before opening day and making a move. If ya don't have one located then glass, glass, glass!

Yes very very fortunate and blessed this year. Drew 13b deer in az, 45 deer in idaho, and best of all getting married to the girl of my dreams in less than a month. Now just to figure out how to juggle it all together. I'm going to try and make a scouting trip to 45 this weekend, still haven't a clue where to start. Any help suggestions on where to begin would be much appreciated, PM me . Thanks.
