First off, thank you to the fine people of sportsmen warehouse
for putting me in for hunt 2012 instead of 2102.( I still have the paper I wrote all my hunts down on and it clearly says 2102 yes it's up to me to double check them but I'm not complaining this time) I never would have drawn a bull tag if I meant to put in for it. lol
I've hunted 37 a lot but never 37a so what can I expect there besides straight up and down mountains. Hows the elk herds doing there( real world experience's preferred over F&G's overly optimistic view appreciated) I will make several scouting trips and have been pouring over the unit with my onX map.

Thanks

Interesting post.....
You don't know what you were applying for and you don't know the zone.
Is it no wonder no-one has been jumping to help?

Sounds like somebody transposed the digits for his application, not his fault really. If I knew anything about the unit I would help but I've never set foot up there. Hopefully somebody can jump on here and help you out OP

You should thank me for my response to your post. Not one person offered to help in five days until I said something.

Good point NiceRack
Also I was not aware that sportsman warehouse offers an application service.

Here in Idaho buckhorn any place that sells hunting licenses can also put you in for controlled hunts. And as I said yes it is my fault for not checking the receipt closer or I would have caught they're mistake which worked in my favor with a bull tag. I thought I was safe with writing it down for them.

NiceRack, PM sent.

I've heard of this happening a lot at wally world and sportsmans. The best way to do it is online, proof read your app 5x before you click submit.

I've never put in for the wrong tag one time. $3.75 in gas to the store = the online convenience fee and you know it's done right.

Good luck with your bull tag, that could be a fun tag.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-15-18 AT 11:32PM (MST)[p]Thanks twosnow it does look like its going to be a fun hunt.
First time in my life to have this happen. Just got in a hurry and missed the little tiny a behind the 37. Sportsmens is only a short walk away from me so I kept my $3.75 and got a bull tag. Normally it's the other way around and I would have been put in for the cow tag not the bull tag so I'm going to roll with it,maybe I should buy a lottery ticket lol

My two sons and nephew drew 37A. I did not, I have a Salmon B elk tag. I will guide for my boys Oct. 1st for as long as they can hunt. I do know 37A very well and have been watching two herds for the last 4 months. I know of two 330 plus bulls that I watched last winter before they shed, the same two bulls I have watched for two years (just in case I was lucky enough to draw). To get to them is an uphill 3+ mile hike into and through some pretty bad ass country. But once you get up there you're smack dab in the middle of their bedrooms (this spot would be a better archery hunt) filthy with sign and wallows. I don't mind sharing info with someone who knows 37A and understands how difficult it can be to get a bull there. The country is very steep as i'm sure you know and horses or strong young men are of the order for packing out. I have not draw 37A for the last 4 years as it is very difficult to draw that tag when you apply solo. I'm not real enthusiastic about sharing info with someone who accidentally draws (and lol's about it). I will send you a PM.

Just find the steep hills and find a trail to the top,
elk in many of those drainages.
Check the southern end of valley first and work back northwest to
Salmon River.
