New trespass law fines?

Wondering what's the update on Idaho new trespass law and fines if ticketed? What are your thoughts? Will it stop hunters from knowingly trespass? Thanks

I don't recall the exact fines, but they climb with each violation. My thoughts are, the same guys that don't trespass will be the same. The guys that are brazen or dumb enough are still going to trespass. The landowners who are jackasses will be more emboldened to mark property that isn't theirs and to be bigger bullies. The landowners who have given permission will still probably give permission. The law enforcement don't even want anything to do with it! This was a present put in the laps of large tract landowners.

I think there's a mandatory year or two revocation of a trespassers hunting license. What a garbage law that doesn't serve its supposed purpose--preventing intentional trespassers. There's no exception for accidents and minimal posting requirements. It's Wilkes Bros and their lobbyist bullcrap. Get your OnX and do everything you can to stay on public.

I have the OnX map set and I have found a lot of areas that are not listed who owns them. In one case it was an island that was showing as private but another map said it was USFW.

IdahoRon, that's another reason why the law is bs. There isn't a surefire way that a guy can know he's on public land, even with OnX (who disclaims all liability and doesn't warrant that they're info is accurate). The law treats trespassing as if people should know and they lowered the landowner's posting requirements. Go figure.

More living proof that most, if not all, Democrats are morons.

yea whatever.

It wasn't democrats bought and paid for by the Wilks that made this stupid new trespass law.

It's not democrats introducing bills in congress to make it easier for states to sell off our public lands.

It wasn't democrats who locked out Utah citizens from 2700 miles of rivers and streams making Idaho's rivers and streams more crowded with Utards.

Not really considering how easily republicans can be bought and paid for by some rich Texas douche bags.

So much ignorance and so little time.

Great response bro!

Maybe you can explain how it's really the Democrats who are doing all they can to sell off our public lands.

Facts are facts and the fact is all politicians can be bought and most are. As for the laws you better have everything you can to show you was trying to be right with the law because it will go to court and if you have a case showing you did more then just played dumb then you should be good if that's the honest truth and you do not have a record of trying to trespass on private land. Keep it honest and it works out.

One thing I would like to see is property owners that post property that is not there property as private should be hit equally hard this might not happen in idaho but in utah it is a regular thing with property owners that own property up against public!!!!

Public is still public and private is still off limits without permission. Its not changing Idaho into Texas. No land that was previously public is being closed. But nice job with the hyperbole.........

There are two sides to this issue, just talk to a couple landowners about the trespassing problems they have had and NO enforcement of the existing laws. That's the biggest reason for the change.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-15-18 AT 03:28PM (MST)[p]I wanted to share the perspective of local law enforcement of this new law. The Boise County Sheriff posted about it a few days ago. I'm not going to paste the whole thing here, but the most interesting paragraphs are below:

"I would start by stating that the Idaho Sheriff's Association, myself included, vehemently opposed this law and worked diligently to the last second until the vote occurred.

The law has in fact passed, and is very poorly written, making it extremely difficult to enforce and posing a danger to the public, the land owners and to law enforcement."

More complicated to understand, more complicated to follow, more complicated to enforce No ability to seek restitution for legal fees after being wrongly accused.
Yup nothing is changed job well done Idaho legislature

Might not like the phrasing, but he ain't wrong. We all know who pushes this crap, its ok to call a spade a spade. Someday hopefully all us outdoors folks will register as Independents. Let neither side rest easy for f-ing with us. Sad we haven't figured that our yet and keep pledging support to R just because we are supposed to.

I tend to agree. Both sides are EQUALLY corrupt and I'm getting fed up with all of them. Need to clean house and start over with non-politicians who aren't beholden to special interests.
