just wondering how the mule deer population is in this unit looking to find some new ground my stompin grounds has been a bit crowded..

i get all the outta staters bs i live in oregon i deal with it as well and have given plenty of advice where to find the big blacktails over here; anyways i'll step down off my soapbox now...

most people begin by saying i'm not looking for your honey hole...bs we all are lol...dunka

Havent felt a need to be hunting this spot the last couple years due to a change of events but this was the honey hole before that!

Lemhi unit deer are way down. Winter before last had a 55% fawn mortality rate. 37, 37A, 29 and 28 units have the worst deer population I have seen in the last 15 years. I scouted a few days ago and saw 1 buck when normally I would se 5-8 in a day. Not blowing smoke "just the facts".

Spent a lot of time in the Lemhi zone the past 2 seasons hunting elk. Did not encounter many deer and no big bucks. Did see two lions and a couple of bears. I agree, going to be tough in Lemhi to find a lot of deer. Of course there are loads along the Lemhi river on private.

thanx guys kinda what i figured, makes it even harder my kid is an elk nut n i'm a muley nut...i have hunted unit 6 for bulls but never seen a muley up there lotsa wolf sign to and the mornings are filled with howls ...

What kind of quality were you finding here???

"Go hunt for meat at Walmart."

I was there yesterday. We didnt see a deer going in early during dark and as the sun came up. It's not good.
Idaho deer populations have never been worse.

The deer hunting in SW Idaho is fantastic right now. Your in the complete wrong part of the state to see mule deer numbers. That zone is totally dominated by elk.

Are we still talking about the lemhi zone?

Man, this is just such an unreasonable and incorrect broad statement. You simply couldn't be more wrong brotha.

As wrong as calling the grass blue and the sky green.

I'm not trying to start a war, but there is still some phenomenal deer hunting in parts of the state. I wish I could take you out for a single day.

I know there are parts of the state that were destroyed by that winter. Utterly barren wastelands with no deer. But there are still some units that are thriving, I promise.

I believe he's referring to units 40 thru 47

There are deer to be found but like others have said you will see higher numbers of deer on the private land than BLM and national forest. There are many other places that have better hunting in the west but at least you have the opportunity for OTC tags in those units. In my opinion the units are crowded but that is just my opinion. There are a lot of steep mountains in the Lemhi units so your odds will increase if you are physically capable of climbing those hills and willing to pack a deer or elk out of a nasty hole.
